I am so confused. Whats going on? People are ripping on this game
I see 2 common themes people complaining about bugs and exploits and the people just praising it saying they are having endless fun. I am so confused. I am soloist so I don't go online because I am what the gaming community calls a "filthy casual" and do whatever. What's going on?

nothing special.... there'll always be "two camps" in a game....

Well I mean, ark in particular is super buggy and poorly optimized, has been for a long time. They've been improving a little, but still have a long ways to go. For example even the latest update to genesis has caused bugs with supply drops where you can no longer find loot of greater than default quality. Overall though it is a fun game. My best advice is wait for a sale or get it from steam share. I've seen it go as low as $10 and to be honest, it isn't worth 60.

Ark's only saving grace is that you can modify the game to suit you.

Ark's official rules suck if you have real life obligations. And at the moment, Ark does not have sufficient capacity for those playing on official servers governed by the devs (free of monthly charges, as long you bought the DLC) due to the recent release of Genesis 2, which in my book, is the most fun map ever, YMMV.

You can easily make your own server, with whatever rules you want, including making it harder than official. You can do this by paying a server hosting company or running your own server, which isn't hard in Ark.

Guess which camp is happy and the other isn't?

For a solo experience is the Genesis worth the time you put into it?

That's really subjective. Is any game worth the time you put into it?

I'm guessing if you like Minecraft solo, then you will like Ark. Where Ark stands out is being able to turn most of your enemies (a plethora of dinosaurs with unique abilities) into friends (and so far, there are no zombies. I am so sick and tired of killing zombies.)

Edited Note: But making the dinosaurs your friends is not always easy. Although some are. And Genesis 2 is the easiest of all the maps for newbs, unlike Genesis 1.

Have a look at the hours played on a neg review. A normal person that dislikes a game does not play it for thousands of hours. If you click on their profiles, most times you will find they are still playing the game and often for more hours than a person spends in full time employment. So when you find out what is going on, tell me because I am just as confused.

The OP has 200 hours in Ark, he/she is not completely new to the game. I play solo too (run a server cluster on my old PC but because it has only 8GB RAM, I can't run more than 2 servers at the same time, lol). Is Genesis worth it? Probably, but if you're having fun in other maps now, there's no rush, you're not missing anything critical. You can always buy it later when on sale, or when you want to experience a new map/dinos/etc. Regarding 2 groups of different opinions of the game - they are sort of both right, but if you're playing offline, bugs are a lot less annoying and exploits are meaningless.

Haha, yea, but that can be understandable. Take World of Warcraft for example - the game is in a pretty bad spot currently, but many people invested 15-16 years into that game, it's hard to let go even if the direction of the game doesn't look good now.

I read an article about a guy who plays Ark, he had some medical condition, so he stayed home are played Ark for an insane number of hours, he has like 17k hours played or something. He left a negative review - saying that some tribe kidnapped him, took him to a glitched place in the map where his friends can't save him, they keep him cuffed and keep shoving him narcotics. Also he stopped pooping and he can't die of hunger. So imagine this situation - you're completely addicted to Ark, but can't even play the game, lol, I would be pissed off too.

I played WoW at release, so I resemble that remark ;) I won't touch it now. I also played Everquest at release before that and was an Evercrack addict.

But I don't play PvP in Ark, so that can't possibly happen to me. You can also play on official PvE servers, where despite being PvE, you can still be griefed (not being able to build anywhere because of others blocking you from building.)

I only play Ark on private servers with friends and family. I made one attempt at joining a stranger's private PVE server while my friends were playing other games, and even that turned out horribly (the server operator started asking me questions, then kicked me when I disagreed with his religious beliefs).

Unpleasant things happen when playing with strangers.

But Ark gives you the option to solo, or only with friends.

Playing with people you don't know can suck, unless the devs take measures to prevent it. The Ark devs don't, but rather give you the means to modify the game so that you don't have to.

Me and my wife actually met through ARK :D
One one of my old servers that I had. This was back when Scorched opened.
And I have to say, after being running 4 clustered servers for a long time, I've met alot of people.. and made real life friends from these servers.

I've also have had to block a few people, cause they became obnoxious, threatening and even stalking ( Due to I made mods, they followed my user ).

After a few year we took the servers down, but ended up playing on other servers, and most of them been great ppl. But again, we have been on a few servers that we left pretty quickly due to bad ppl ( still PVE ) or missusing admins.

IMO it's a try and see thing. Either you set up your own, or you try a few servers and see..

That's really subjective.

I know I like hearing other opinions. My girlfriend heard David Tennant was in part 2 so she is very curious. Is there like a campaign type deal going in Genesis?

Same, there was a glimmer of hope with the release of classic but I lasted two months, the love just wasn't there anymore.

Compared to all the past and present triple A titles as of late Ark bugs are nothing compared to the **** show going on with other games right now. For all peoples complaints about Ark, atleast there isn't like 50+ DLC you have to buy to be on par with everyone else. There is no battle pass, no login rewards to make you feel like a donkey chasing a carrot on a stick attached to your head. No lootboxes or in-game micro transactions. Just the base game, some dlc and that is it. Which I am happy with.

That's not in Genesis part 2, and (I think) not even in the Ark 2 game, which is supposed to come out in 2022. David Tennant will be in "Ark: The Animated Series" show which will also air next year. The only person that's involved in the game Ark 2, and not just the series, is Vin Diesel, as far as I know.

Tennant is literally in the credits[i.imgur.com] of genesis part 2 for voicing Rockwell
