OP wasn't "gloating". He was just saying that ARK is using up such a huge amount of ram. Which is a lot, yes.
So how much of memory I would need to play ark on a little decent way without being afraid of my computer exploding?
But yeh 16GB is rather the budget entry level gaming PC atm.
32GB would be fine for the majority of gamers including headroom for other background apps like browsers etc.
I wouldnt stress about it too much yet. Just be mindful of how many apps you are running when you try to play demanding games like ark.
But the next time you're looking at upgrading, or getting a new PC, try to aim for 32 if you can manage.
Not that simple. Your other hardware factors. If you wish, go to the steam helo menu, click system information and then copy paste all that here so we can see what steam detects and how it may factor.
After all if your other hardware is below min reqs etc then it wont be much point for you to get more ram.
i wasn't defending ark. i have the same frustrations as everyone else who plays it. i've had my fair share of problems with it. heck i even rage uninstalled once. i don't white knight for the devs or their game. i was simply stating that in 2021 a new dlc as large as the one wildcard just released, 16gb is only just gonna scrape you through.
It uses 5.5 GB when Ark is not running. I'm only running the client (not Ark servers) with 5 mods (S+, CKF, CKFR, Awesome Spyglass, and Creature Finder Deluxe). There are only 2 of us playing on the server, the server operator and me, the server operator is on vacation, so just me at the moment, and the server is new (not a lot of dinos or structures yet).
But yet 8.6 GB of RAM is being used Ark. I'm fine with that, I have 64 GB.
The only advice I have for the OP is if your PC is old, adding more RAM could be expensive due to "legacy pricing" and you might be better off upgrading your CPU/MB/RAM and transferring the other components to a new build.
Hence the request by others in this thread for information about your system, since things like what I said above could affect the answer.
How cute.
Edited Note: Although I would love it if you're right, it just doesn't reflect my experience with Ark.
Has it been confirmed by the devs that its a memory leak ?
I run a cluster and I can't add Gen2 atm due to the massive ram usage T_T
i hope you dont honestly think that the entire map and all its contents are kept loaded the entire time...
