It gave rise to Tek technology. Amazing and powerful, but as time wore on, it became obvious that Element was a dangerous toxic and semi sentient substance.
So much so that it poisoned the Earth, creating the King Titan as an avatar of its hive mind like state, and thus the other titans, corrupting and destroying the Earth and driving humanity twords extinction.
In the many years all of this happened, the waring nations finally banded together to fight back, but it was a losing battle, so they used their mighty technology to build the Arks.
Gigantic orbital stations that would foster new life and protect it, all with the purpose of generating cloned humans, to find the STRONGEST to Ascend and do what they others could not. STOP the Element Corruption.
TO do that, the ultimate fight had to happen, to beat and end the King Titan, the central source, for without destroying it, the corrupting element would never stop.
So with him dead, the Arks all could descend back to Earth, using their powerful technology to finally at last rid the corrupted element from Earth.
And in doing so, the broken Abberant Ark also returned, with Rockwells twisted form in tow.
Now the issue of the Genesis ship is, it was launched at the same time as the ARKs were being developed. A seperate mission to try and ensure humanity survived, by escaping to another world to colonize.
However at the same time, the Genesis simulation also existed as a way to test techonolgy and systems, which in turn helped the ARKs as well. And vise versa. Things the ARK systems did, were mirrored to the Genesis ship.
As for how you get there. Well remember, your conciousness is essentially digital, your body nothing but a clone. All the times you die, you're conciousness is being uploaded to a new cloned body, something HELENA did once she ascended to a HomoDias. To ensure a survivor who would be strong enough to stop the King Titan, would arrise. Rather than so many dieing as happened in her time on the Arks.
As for how Rockwell gets there, well I guess thats something to find out in the explorer notes and gameplay on Genesis 2.
Of course by beating the King Titan, humanity can now come back to their homeplanet from the ARKs ("The arks are comming home... as Helena says) - thanks to the player.
My guess is that Rockwell (who is seeking a planet to control in genesis 2) went on the ship together with the Survivor/player and the other people in there --- maybe Rockwell is only a spore/corruption that found its way into the ship --- hoping that he could find a planet to colonize, maybe with some corrupted survivors that follow his orders, therefore he has to corrupt the simulation and then posess the ship.
Of course the main character/player beats the simulation and wakes up, having to face now the ultimate enemy: Rockwell, in the ship.
Major spoiler warning, Syntac defeated the boss, thats why i know this
After defeating Rockwell the ship goes down thanks to HLN-A, but the survivor/player and Santiago survive, hopefully to start a new adventure on the new planet that they land on
But the other poster said that the ship for genesis was launched the same time the arks, which was not recent. IT doesn't explain how the player who is a ♥♥♥♥ deis managed to be updated to a ship many light years away. UNLESS the survivor in genesis 1 and 2 is a different character all together separate from the earth and ark ones.
Notice in the ending cutscene of Extinction.. how the Survivor puts his hand up when Helena shows. It's because this is the first time you meet her before she uploads you to Genesis.
Rockwell had taken over as Overseer on AB... he's part of the system already when you defeat him the first time. This is how he survives the crash of AB onto Earth and the purge of all element, by uploading to Genesis, which as you can see in the notes is a simulation being run on Federation tech unlike the Arks.. it's being run on the ship, you've already transferred when Gen1 starts.
Late in Earths Life when ♥♥♥♥ Sapiens were still the dominant life on the planet something happened which caused a new compound to appear on Earth. This Compound became known as element. Humans found Element to be a Miracle item that could be used to craft stronger structures while also providing free power so they started making everything out of it. Element though had a corrupting element that they failed to see. Nature soon became corrupt and humanity faced extinction. As such Humanity started working on projects to either fight the corruption or just survive. One of these projects was Project Genesis and One was Project Ark.
You start as someone who woke up on a Ark far into the future normal Humans have gone extinct by this time on earth and all thats left is anything on the Arks orbiting earth. The Island is the first Ark its where all the New humans are produced. But to leave the Island Ark you must show that you have the power to overcome adversity and beat some of the stronger creatures the Old Humanity created. Once you have defeated all the strongest creatures that the Island Ark has you are allowed to challenge the Overseer of the Ark. If you can prove yourself strong enough The Ark will allow you to Ascend off of the Island where you will be transported to a new harsher Ark. Scorched Earth.
On scorched earth you are put through even tougher encounters harsher environments put your survival to the test. Stronger creatures exist to prove you have what it takes to survive. The Manticore a combination (not Physically but more mechanic wise) of the bosses you fought on the Island stands guard over the Overseer (that they never put in). Once you prove your worth in this harsh environment you are allowed to ascend once again this time to an ark that has long been damaged where you must survive the harshest environments yet. Abberation.
In Abbertion you put up with not only the harshness you have seen before but also you come into contact with the negative aspects of Element. The thing you yourself have used for much of your equipment. You have to deal with creatures that could be seen as strong as some of the bosses of the earlier arks and you have to deal with the radiation of the element. As you finally prove yourself worthy to fight the overseer you come not upon the Overseer but a corrupt Human Rockwell. Rockwell has taken over the Abberation Ark and wants nothing more than to see the corruption spread. After a long drawn out battle you manage to best rockweel and as he has become the new overseer you are granted passage to the next location. This time though there are no more arks in front of you. You have proven yourself worthy. You have proven you can overcome the negative aspects of Element. You have proven to be able to survive in the harshest locations the Arks can throw at you Now its time for you to head to Earth. To the Extinction of the Human race.
As you land in or around one of the last Standing cities on earth you are met with a desolate wasteland. Creatures that humanity made to survive the Coruption have either fallen to it or have learned to survive outside of the corruption. You must learn with them. As you delve into each of what seems to be proto Arks you come across 3 giant Titans that seem to be on the verge of Corruption. Whether these titans are human made or Not is unclear. You travel to the Tundra and beat the titan there. You head to the Dessert and beat the flying titan there. You head underground in what seems to be a replication of what abberation should have been and beat the titan there. As you beat the final titan you hear a loud roar in the distance as the final titan come toward you. You set out to fight the King Titan and slay the giant monstrosity. As it falls what looks like a human comes to you. Helena a Human that has ascended past a mortal body floats before you. She tells you with the Titans fallen the largest concetration of Corruption has been purged now the Arks can do what they were designed to do. Destroy the remaining corruption. They fall from the sky raining down and as they land they let off a pulse that cleanses the ground. But all is not well. For you see in Abberation you did beat Rockwell but you did not kill him. Now on earth he finds a connection to something that he should not have and sends himself out into space where the other project lay. Project Genesis a giant space ship transporting the last of Humanity across the stars to a new home. Helena remains on earth but she sends a small fragment of her consciousness with you to the space ship.
When you arrive you are placed into a Pod and put into the ships mainframe called the Simulation. Here you must run around making sure the mainframe of the ship is intact by completing missions and fixing glitches. As you finish the task of fixing the mainframe you are pulled into the core of the system where you find the Main Ship AI has been taken over by Rockwell. You battle him here and push him out of the system but he still is on the ship. As you exit the Simulation you leave your pod only to be pulled from the room by a giant Tentacle. Now you must purge the Genesis Ark of the Corruption that inhabits it.
Havne't gone through Gen2 story yet so don't know whats happening to much there.
This makes since, however this is one issue.... The player has become a ♥♥♥♥ deus as well. So.... how is it that rockwell who is not a ♥♥♥♥ deus even stand a chance lol.
