What happened to wall placement? (Can't build a perimeter wall)
Over 6 years ago you had an alright building system for this.
Now upon returning and reaching the point where I want to build a perimeter around an area, I simply can't do so because the provided engrams (fence foundations and support) just don't want to work with the land, snap, or face the right way.

The hell happened?

I've tried to research this myself but confused at what ever results I'm finding has got me no further than when I started.

Can someone please explain how it's suppose to work these days? I came across some places saying it won't because it's a bug and you have to be creative for a work around, is that it and how?

Actually the building system has improved since then.

If you are getting error message saying you cant build on a spot, that's most often due to:
-ruins
-beacon drop radius location
-other specific/important resources.

If you are playing in single player or on some unofficial servers, not a small number of those settings can be changed to allow, but there are some exceptions.

If you receive no message, then it can be that you're building improperly or attempting to place from a position/angle that the game doesnt register(this happened even way back when btw).

There are many tutorials on how to build that may help you, and include how you can change settings(allowing clipping etc) that can improve building(if in single player or your own server... official servers limit such).

No clue if its improper, but having an hour gaining nothing but a head ache trying to get this to work. Pretty sure tried every angle including rotations but they just didn't want to snap or place straight, only at angles from each vertices - in terms of the supports, actually going backwards.....

The build system may have improved but for this sort of thing, currently seems like a right mess.
The tutorials etc? Mostly outdated or unhelpful with some dates at least 2 years old, the text based ones had some form of workaround that the player had to implement.

If you get a message like "Cant build here blah blah blah" or the item is green outlined but when clicking to place it disappears, that's what's usually being referred to as invalid placement due to settings by the game.

Youtube has tons of tutorials for new players and ones in the last 2 years would be relevant(post the small additions from structures plus mod that were integrated). Also some older can still have relevance too of course.

Without having a video watching you trying to do what you're trying to do, its hard to specifically address what your issue may be.

Last time someone complained on this in december or so, it turned out the person was trying to build in a manner that ark -never- allows and then proceeded to tell off everyone that he was right and devs and players were wrong(they were building by placing pillars first in their case and unevenly and expecting ceilings to match up for a suspended floor and other silliness.

Anyway the point was to say that its hard to narrow down further your issue specifically.

I build a lot in ARK (vanilla game, no mods) and I don't have any issue with fence foundations or with fence supports.

As retsam1 said, it's hard to understand what is your problem exactly.

As for building tutorials, I beg to differ - ARK vanilla builders are very active and a lot of useful videos are posted every week. Check videos from Aaron Longstaff or The Pilgrimz Project, for example.

You should take a look at this very recent video (posted one month ago) which might help you, useful tips and tricks, including about fences :
