Breeding and imprinting on fliers also increases their stats so dont forget that. Also mutations giving more stats as well.
The only problem is they are a bit slow, but as patch 321.1, leveling movement speed can be enabled on your own game, so it's no long a big issue.
Argentavis - Generally the bird that most people use. It's got decent speed and health, with good carry weight and stamina.
Tapajara - One of my favorites. It flies faster than the Argentavis, but doesn't have as much stamina or weight as the Argent, and also has slightly less HP than the Argent. However, it does have one rather major upside, that's actually unique to it on unmodded Island. Being that it has full 360 movement when flying (up and down, left and right, forward and back). It's very satisfying to fly.
Archaeopteryx - A bit of a joke flyer all things considered, you can ignore this if you want. However the Archaeopteryx is actually a hilariously effective form of map traversal if your character is built for movement speed. Simply put, the Archaeopteryx is a small tame that you can pick up and lift over your head with both arms. Whenever you are in the air, it will flap its wings to slow your fall tremendously, which it will do until you touch the ground or if you choose to let go of it. Furthermore, it will keep most of your momentum from a jump until you try to slow down or change direction. This essentially means that you can fly over the entire Island map in one go, should you have sufficient elevation at the start of your jump (which doesn't need to be too high all things considered). Furthermore, based on your movement speed, you can actually be one of the fastest flyers in an unmodded Island playthrough. It's main issues are the fact that it's pretty much helpless, you won't be carrying too much weight doing this, it can't gain elevation on its own, and it may be a one way trip based on where you land.
Edit: Oh, but if you have flyer movement speed leveling enable, then it's pretty much your choice for which flyer you want. Movement speed in a lot of regards breaks flyers and makes stamina less necessary. It also makes it so the Archaeopteryx is no longer the fastest "flyer" on the Island when your character is focused into movement speed.
but well breed petrushkas are doing a good job.
It was mostly to explain why each are good outside of simply stating why they are good, whilst also explaining how they compare to their other options. Which, in the case of the Archaeopteryx, really requires explanation for how it is usable and why I believe it is good.
I suppose I could briefly mention the other two flyers, other than the Pteranodon, that can appear on the Island, just in case they sound interesting.
Pelagornis: is honestly very similar to the Pteranodon in functionality. However it's slightly slower, lacks the spinning maneuver, and gives up the ability to carry things. In turn, it can rest at the surface of the water, which can give you an extra landing zone that can be safer than the ground at times.
Quetzal: it's a really big "bird". It has a lot of health, a lot of weight, and a lot of stamina. It can even grab some rather large creatures, like the Mammoth. Later on you get a platform saddle that allows you to build on its back. Its primary issue is that when you aren't able to level its movement speed, the Quetzal is PAINFULLY slow.
