Do all expansions have to be enabled
Ok, so I basically have all the Ark content available. I am curious if newer expansions are reliant upon previous expansions being installed.

Best example would be, if I ONLY check the box to add the Genesis expansions stuff, will I be fine or do I have to load Scorched Earth, Abberation, etc. as well to not miss out on any item/dino content?

Hoping to save a few gigs of space as Ark can get HUGE fast. :)

As far as my knowledge is, You only need the expansions installed if you want to use the maps. The items themselves to use on other maps (modded or whether the map allows), no. Though I know some mods (like ECOs, if they haven't changed this) does use The Center for textures.

Though, do keep in mind that my info may be out dated as I patiently wait for Gen II.

Note: In other words, you should be fine installing Only Gen if that's the map you wish to play. Believe I did that before I quit a long while ago.

Thanks for the response. Yeah, that is how I would hope and expect to be, but you never know. :steamhappy:

yeah each map is its own dlc. you don't more than the base game to install any.

Scorched Earth, Aberration and Extinction have no overlap with each other in terms of creatures, items or resources they add. So they can be installed individually. The Genesis ones will probably be dependent on each other, but we can't tell until Gen 2 comes out.

Some item stuff of other DLCs is always installed. If you e.g. install Valguero or Crystal Isles you can use many items from Scorched Earth and Abberration.

I highly doubt so. they never made it so before so there is no real reason to begin now. lore speaking they are intertwined yes; but in a strict technical point of view they will be 2 different maps on their own.

No other DLCs were ever called "Part 1 and Part 2" before.
The answer is, unfortunately 'It Depends'.

Do you want to experience the whole story of the game? Because there IS a story -- three of them, really. The first being the story of what came before you as the player, as told through the Survivor Notes you can find around the maps, and the second being what you yourself as the player accomplish as you follow in those footsteps. The third would be the Genesis story, which is separate if tied to the prior two (and with Genesis 2 seemingly much more interrelated, to go by the trailer)

If you wish to experience that for yourself and not just watch a composite Youtube video or read them all online... then yes, you need at least all the paid DLCs.

If you *just* want to acquire all the dinos, then no, you do not need them -- Their very existence and your ability to tame / ride / use them is not actually tied to the DLC. and most if not all of them can be found on the free DLC maps of Crystal Isles, The Center, Ragnarok, and Valguero. However, there may be some that don't show up there -- I don't recall, for example, if Reapers can be found on any of them, or Astrocetus. Similarly, you're going to need to at a minimum play on different maps to see all the regional variants of dinos, like the Aberrant and X-Gen ones, because not all dinos are found on all maps. (In point of fact, even the free DLCs have dinos that are unique to them -- such as Valguero's Deinonychus, and Crystal Isle's Crystal Drake.)

If you want to be able to make all equipment, you do not *need* the DLCs, but *only* if you are using a mod that unlocks them. The equipment and engrams themselves are not locked to the DLC (that is, the models etc are not), but by default in order to craft many of them or to obtain the TEK engrams, you are supposed to either be on that map or need to defeat certain bosses. However, some of the free DLC maps bypass the former, and there are settings that can bypass the latter if you are not on an official server.

So really, it comes down to what exactly you want to get out of things, and how you're planning on playing the game. If you're going to be playing official servers, then I'd highly recommend getting everything. If you aren't, then it kinda depends on whether you have a desire to see the actual story and the boss fights, or if you just wanna run around and sandbox what you can.

you don't need to download all the dlcs to get one dlc. that's not exactly how it works.
