Flyers kicking you off near water - how to disable this bs?
This is probably the most broken & frustrating thing in Ark. The fact that you cant control it either, and cant get back up = instant death and the flyer does nothing, but repeatedly kicking you off.

This is essentially game breaking, countless times now i've been killed, lost equipment, lost tames due to this (even when the water was so shallow that the birt-tard should just've been able to land there anyway).

How to disable this?

If the dino enters the water plain, unless the dino was designed to go in the water, it will kick you off your mount. It has always been that way. If the dino walks into the water, if it goes up as much as 1/4 of the dinos height there is a good change it will kick you off the mount. As far as I know there is no way to disable it.

Don't take the flyer in the water?

How is it instant death?

Yes, and this is such a worthless, terrible design. I don't expect it to fly underwater, or to land on a surface, but at least they should make it so the surface is a barrier and instead of it kicking you off uncontrollably, you just cant go down below the surface.

99% of the time, it's unavoidable.

Piranhas, sharks, mantas, spinos, those electric eels or just simply drowning. Water = Death. Have you played Ark?

It can be annoying, but the best I can say is to just avoid entering the water plain if at all possible. Some dinos you can enter the water (as long as they can swim) like ankys and doeds. But I know flyers are sketchy if they are not designed for water use (like the peligornis is.)

Only 1300 hours worth.... Never happens to me.

Its always been this way, but what i don't understand is .....If you know its going to happen why are you flying so low as to touch the water in the first place.

Why are you so close to the water if it's not your intention to go in it?

99% of the time it is avoidable... Because unless you were not paying ettention to stam you flew the flyer into the water. Outside of trying to land on a tiny piece of stone out in the ocean or something.

My problem with flyers is accidentally hitting E...

I've learned to hit J instantly when dismounted, then the flyer will stick with you. If you land in the water you just need to jump up and grab them.

Carry grapples man. You just grapple to it. If it's stuck near the waters edge make it follow you and swim a little then grapple it. #grapplessavelives

I fully agree with the OP. This is just bad design and is still a problem in 2025. Also the guy downplaying the issue isn't helping, aside from flexing. You can't "just jump up and grab" your flyer after it kicks you off over water because the mount button 'e' sometimes switches to 'check inventory', then you have to hold 'e' to get a submenu. This often fumbles, which means death - often as in much more than 1% of the time, more like 30-40% of the time for me.

Thank you for necroing this 4 year old thread.

I still don't get how this is instant death.

Use a tame that doesn't dismount you when you hit water. The rhyniagnatha can fly and _swim_, as ridiculously as that is. You hit water and you go INTO the water, still mounted and start swimming around.

Bloodstalkers can also swim too, but way less useful then a ryhynia. Bloodstalkers are ambush predators, not toe to toe frontline fighters like a rhynia.

Well I'm not sure of your issue with this thread since firsty you dont own Evolved, so just looks to me as a lame excuse of a NECRO  No clown awards given here

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
