Which dinos auto farm stone and flint?
Mainly it's for gunpowder (each sparkpowder needs stone). Mining nothing but stone gets tedious. It's got to be the number one most used resource. Yes there's dinos to fight on. No that's not the same as enjoying shooting.

The goal isn't to get what I need quickly. It's to get it when I'm doing other things.

Which dinos for each map will auto farm stone? For the island the smaller armored ones seem to fit for stone. But is there a dino that farms flint better? I already got metal covered (I don't auto farm yet it but it's easy enough to get in bulk).

A number of maps will have the dinos. But some maps might not. What would I use then? I want to take map only dinos into account.

Finally, what's the respawn range for resources near structures? I need to know this because leashes and pillers.

That just leaves weight. But I'd upgrade that.

The Anky (low to the ground, armored all over) gets flint and metal.

Those would be the smaller amored dinos. I can't remember if the big ones get more stone then flint or not. Or do both dinos get lots of stone and flint?

doedicurus - https://ark.fandom.com/wiki/Doedicurus - will auto farm stone.

Dunno about respawn range. I play on a modded server, where respawn range has been reduced.

The default for no-respawn radius should be ~75m i think ?
I keep forgetting how much that is in foundation\pillars\etc though.

Sadly you cant auto harvest flint, i have hoped several times that WC would give the anky TLC so it would, but some people seem to think that is to OP 🤷‍♂️

yeah. But anky's are still the ones I use to manually harvest flint.

I'm fairly certain most of us do, however OP is specifically looking for auto-harvesting dino's, so might be worth mentioning that you can't for flint right ¿

Having just gotten back on Ark anky is not "low to the ground". it's a medium sized dino, not a small one. I was thinking of the doedicurus. I have the former, but just use a metal pickaxe to get flint. Less of a chore then stone. 4-5 rocks and you got 1000 gunpowder already. The anky I use for metal.

So it's fine if I can't auto harvest flint. What about other maps though? I have all the DLC and might start fresh on each map. Do all maps have the doedicurus? Mainly I'm wondering about aberration. Want to use sometihng other then the mantis if I can. Don't think I seen doedicurus on that map, but there might be karkinos.

Yes, Aberrant for Aberration, also spawns on Val. As far as i know each map, both payed and free, features the Doedicurus.

That's good.

Found something else out too. This is interesting (and useful).

"Foundations 'emit' spawn suppression, but fence foundation and pillars do not"

This means you can plop a piller down right near, say, a number of rich metal. Attach a leash to keep the dino within range.

Just one problem with that. Leash is an extinction item. That means having to go to that map to get the leash. But for what I have in mind just putting up a pen to keep the dino (and rocks) inside will work as well.

My tired mind was trying to describe the dino. I failed. LOL!

Why leash them ? Tamed dinos don't wander around by default, being attacked isn't really a problem either, because of hibernation/stasis. The only reason to leash a dino imho, would be if you set it to aggressive on a populated server, cause most areas will be loaded there and thus will result in a wandering dino (with the exception of a select few auto gathering dinos).

And for what its worth, you can learn all DLC engrams on the Genesis 2 map, saves a lot of map hopping ;)

Pretty sure dinos have to be set to wander to farm resources. If they farm what they're right next too without wandering then let me know.

It also lets the base feel more alive instead of static. Like the dinos actually have brains and use them. But if you just set them to wander then they can end up on the other side of a hill. Rivers (and barricades/walls) help prevent them going too far as well. But a leash means they only go a certain distance away. Some dinos I like to keep static, others I'd like to move around more. Some indoors, others outdoors.

This reminds me. Will tame dinos walk into your barricades, or do they avoid them when tamed? I haven't tested that yet. But it looks like even wild dinos know to not go near barricades unless you aggro them. Which is super handy for rivers.

If set near a resource, doeds and therizins, will auto-harvest them without being on wander. I think ankies do, too, but I usually took those out to harvest metal, which I needed in greater quantities than I did stone or wood. Auto-harvesting stone and wood was sufficient for my needs (well-bred, high level dinos).

I'm not sure what you mean by "barricades". If you mean spikes, yes, tames will run into them, but it doesn't harm them.

Edited Note: At least on PvE only enabled servers, which is all I've ever played.

Speaking of respawning, why is it that there were some trees next to my base, and I have gone an used them, they were respawning but seem not to any more. Other words... they are gone and not showing up any more, does this mean that any tree I cut down will not respawn any more?
