Expensive to light up constantly, but man it's beautiful
Use torches and flashlight attachments. Campfires can help if you're making camp (or an outpost). Do NOT go into the jungle near swamps or you'll get troodons on you. They're very passive in the day, but extremely vicious at night (titanboas are also sneaky and can stun you in one hit). Were flak if you have to go there at night. Miner helmet also has a built in flashlight. Standing torches can be good for making a path. Leave a trail from a beach to a cave for example and make sure you light them. They seem to last a while with 200 thatch and thatch is easy to get.
Honestly, there's plenty of ways. Oh, night vision goggles too. Need ammonite bile for that though.
If you're caught with your pants down at night without light then make a quick base. Even a small 3x3 thatch hut can keep you safe. Stick a campfire out front. Cooks food too. Have a torch at the ready. You need to use your ears more then your eyes. Worst case scenario, wait it out. If you made a base and know the area is safe you can even work at night even without light.
Personally I got my main base set up on the cliff near the south swamp cave. I go uphill for the metal (crystal is there too if I need it) and know exactly where the cave is. There's a group of troodons right out front, so I know better then to go there at night even with light. Could fight them with a dino (or even without) but I don't go in for obsidian and chitin and chiten that much. Plus I got a group of dilos I can sacrifice to them to tame them (yes, that is how it works with troodons).
