Metal Ceiling Behemoth With Trapdoor

What is it? I'm messing with the console commands in single player to see what kind of items there are to build bases with and needed a large trap door for something I was going to try(a huge room under my base filled with Beelzebufo's and a sabertooth tiger because the Beelzebufo's KO stuff quickly, and the sabertooth could kill them) but this thing is just odd. The doors open upwards. What is this for, exactly? The only thing I could think of that this was for is to have a room to sit your pteranodon's down in to protect from air raids or something?
