How to Start Story?

So I know there is supposed to be a story to ark like why your there and stuff, Im just wondering how you go about finding it. From what I uinderstand its in the explorer notes??? Also should I play the maps in a certain order for the story to make sense?

I am not sure about the order, and how it plays out. I did The Island first, Center, Scorched Earth, and now finally Aberration. The explorer notes and the bosses are key to figuring out what the Ark's all about and the purpose behind it. If you are really looking to push the story to it's limits, Start with the Island, work on achievements, getting all the notes, and finally killing all the bosses. I believe many people play this way, but for me it's more of a multiplayer sand box. As I go, I still find explorer notes, and kill bosses but the story is in the background. Meeting people and learning the deeper aspects of the game tend to take the front seat. For single player though, no shortage of ups and downs and things to learn. Should be fun.

In release order makes the most sense.
The island. S.e. aberration. Upcommimg dlc.
U can find a list of all the explorer notes and others online pretty easy.

thanks guys ill start with the isle, on a side note if i start on a server and then tranfer off it to another map what happens to all my stuff on the server does it stay mine or do i lose it?

It stays yours... just be aware that if its pve... decay timers will still apply on whatever you leave behind.
