Sun is too bright.
Played single player on the Island but the sun is way to bright.

Which option to tone it down?

Turn off light bloom and shafts in the options, or change the gamma.

Yeah, game can be super bright often even without bloom. I usually use the cmd in the console gamma 1.4. Give it a try, helps give color more saturation and eases the brightness while making the game a bit darker

I know this is years old but why do so many game devs think the sun needs to be brighter in their game than it is in real life?

Why did you feel the need to re-open a 6 year old dead thread. That's a better question.

PS the sun is actually pretty bright in real life. Get outside more, see for yourself.

I can confirm this is false. After staring at the sun everything became black.
