I'm one of the people who did not like crystal isles. I think it's very empty. Not enough dinos spawning. Feels deserted.
Also most of the places with a lot of metal are extremely dangerous so large quantities of metal are hard to get your hands on until late game.
(The answer varies from people just being upset what was a user-made map became a DLC to the fact that some areas feel unfinished/incomplete due to a spartsity of dino spawns).
It is definitely gorgeous though, and even the negative reviews tend to mention that.
Nothing the explore, some areas have very few creatures. You can't tame a basilisk and mantis. Rocks are floating in the air. Creatures can be stuck and don't move (there is a place with like +10 wolves and they only move when you begin to hit them). Dung beetles and snails barely move.
It's a buggy mess most of the time.
Also the difficulty for resources could definitely be a little more lenient, like the Island, but only a bit harder.
It isn't as crazy rich with metal as say Whitespire Peak on the Island, but it's got enough deposits that it would be all a person needs for early to mid game. At least 12 or so, some of them rich metal.
And the area is pretty darn safe, the only dangerous thing I've seen near it is a Sarco, and the metal is far enough from the water that it isn't really a threat, even to my level 2 at the time.
I built a tiny shack and put a bed near the spot, so I don't lose track of it...right now I don't even NEED metal yet.
As for crystal isles it feels empty, aartifacts just laying on the ground for the pick up, that sort of stuff.
Well thanks for the tip!
I started playing on Crystal Isles when it was first released into the official game, and I stopped playing after 6 or 7 hours because I could not find a safe metal spot. The resource map online was still mostly empty and every place I found with metal was either filled with griffins or filled with wyverns.
That and the general emptiness of the map made me move back to my beloved Ragnarok.
In the future I might go back to Crystal Isles. It definitely is one of the most spectacular maps in terms of beauty.
Hey, no problem. I'm super new so before this had only been on the Island. I first decided to check out some of the other maps yesterday finally.
So far, only loaded up Crystal Isles, but I'm going to also check out the other ones over the next few days. Just starting a new server on each of them (I use ASM and run my own dedicated server for myself), to scope out what the "new survivor" experience is like on each.
Well I HIGHLY recommend Ragnarok.
I played most maps in the past, and so far Ragnarok is my all-time favorite. It's huge. Not just the map but also the caves. With the Ragnarok+ mod almost all creatures spawn. Including the dlc creatures. And it contains every single biome in the game. It has all the basic stuff, like beaches, red woods and snow plains. But it also has a volcano filled with lava, a large desert and wide grass lands.
