Edit: I just enabled Single Player Settings and it instantly granted me 527 Ingram Points, which is cool. However, it also granted me 21 Levels too, which is too much. Restoring from backup save...

You get way more engram points with single player mode selected (the checkbox) than the default for multiplayer, but it starts as a slow trickle even then, so until you're much higher level you feel starved for points to get all the engrams that you want.
You can completely customize how many engram points that you get per level, if you wish to, with the ini file for custom levels. It is explained here: http://www.gamewalkthrough-universe.com/Walkthroughs-Guides/Ark-Survival-Evolved/Game-Server-Customization/Custom-Levels/default.aspx
If you do only the ini component for the engram points, and NOT the xp that the above link explains, you will have customized your engram points per level without modifying actual leveling.
You can see the default engram points per level, both for default multiplayer and single player here: https://ark.gamepedia.com/Leveling#Character_Levels
I don't like to use the single player checkbox (makes everything way TOO easy) so I edited my ini for engram points per level to match the single player defaults shown in that link....you can't TRADE in a single player game, so you really do need to get more engram points per level.

It goes up as you get more levels, but if you click the second link in the post I just made it shows you. In the table "EP" stands for engram points, so it shows the Points gained for each level AND the total you will have as of that level. It has columns for both multiplayer and single player so you can even see what the difference is between the two.
You get the single player quantity if, and only if, you have the single player checkbox checked (or bUseSingleplayerSettings=True in your ini file for a server.)
These are the enabled settings in single player setting, just counter-decreasing them by the ratio you want to revert back to normal setting but keep the engrams.
Wiki shows all EP you got per-level, here's the complete flow chart:

As an aside, I think I've been pretty unlucky when it comes to Engrams in loot - most of them are really basic items I've already unlocked. About the most useful have been a couple of better saddles and some improved Ghillie leggings. Nothing else of note really.
It is interesting to see how much higher level I would have been with the Single Player setting checked from the start. I do feel I've stalled at bit over the last few levels, whereas I seemed to fly to level 70 in no time, 71 to 81 have taken an age. Perhaps I will revisit using that setting, and certainly start any fresh games with it.
