manas are fantastic for traversing the map and can be decent fighters so melee and stamina are what i pump on them
ty for the reply! is 255% melee really low for a 140 (pre-tame) mana? should i aim for a better one?
https://www.dododex.com/stat-calculator
yeah, im aware of the stat-calc..problem is that its pre tamed stats calculator.
mine has 255% post-tame.
well, it has decent health so i might just start looking for a female with high melee and breed them.
Please note the following numbers are for 100% imprinted manas; wild ones will have much lower stats:
I typically get my manas to about 2.5k or 3k stamina. This ensures you have plenty of ice breath and jumping power. After that I pump melee, maybe some HP; I like mine to have 10k HP but if your HP stat starts low that may really cut into your damage output, so adjust accordingly.
Manas are my go-to 'run around the map and feel pretty darn safe' creature. It takes a few yuty roars to fear them so you have plenty of time to kill one before your tame starts running amuck. I've found that not everything can unseat me from a mana the way they can smaller tames, though some things (shadowmanes, among others) still can. Manas are fantastic alpha killers because of their ice breath. You can freeze things from a distance then move in (still holding down that breath button) for tons of damage, and if you can't finish something off in one freeze, back off until the freeze cooldown is up again... or just kite the thing while breathing it, because you move like an ice skating cheetah on crack.
Things to watch out for on a mana:
You move so fast that it can often feel like you're sliding around on ice.
Get used to getting caught on rocks and trees. At least you can break the trees. Still obnoxious.
I recommend keeping them on passive or else they may jet off when attacked, never to be found again... lol
You are super strong in one-on-one combat but multiple enemies can overwhelm you because any hit interrupts your ice breath. You will learn to hate creatures like dire wolves that like to get up under you where it's hard to reach them.
