Update stuck, constantly getting bigger
Don't know what the hell they did with this update, but I have never had an issue with updates on Ark and this one seems to have borked my steam up real good.

Constant stuck downloading, when it reaches about 98% it flips out, stops downloading then ads about 30mb more onto the size of the patch.

Any fix for this? I tried clearing my download cache. Restarting steam, etc etc, nothing seems to work.

Make sure you have enough disk space on the steam drive... NOT just the ark drive.
Be patient and let it do its thing.

I've deleted the cache, and the diskspace for Steam and Ark are both the same? I'm not sure what you mean by that. I have 130G left on my steam drive. Should be way overkill for 1G patch? No?

If you have all official dlc installed you will need around 100gb worth of free space to fully download/unpack this patch.

I should note, your actual game size wont change all that much after you finish downloading this patch.

What I mean? Well I don't have inside knowledge of your system. So I can't assume they are the same hence why I worded it the way i did.

130GB free space should be fine. Just keep in mind the updates are quite slow. How long did you wait?
Enigma Aug 18, 2020 @ 5:50pm
@Zerassar It's all I good, I was confused what you meant hah. As for how long, i've been downloading now since around 5 my time, I believe. So around 2 hours now, depending when you read this, give or take.

And @Cataclisto as I said before, I have 130G of free space on the drive currently. Should be well over the required file space allocation for the download.

We'll see what happens, It's stuck in a constant loop of downloading like 20mb at a time, then the entire game stops downloading completely, and takes like 3 min to start again, just to download another 20mb and pause again, and again and again... Never had this problem before with a patch.

Patches for ark coming down in a spitter spatter are pretty typical. Downloads a bit and then spends stupid time writing it to disk. It's worse if you are on a HDD.

SSD here, first time running into this issue. Usually the DL is pretty quick, I've got a decent connection, all my speed tests check out and I'm holding a steady connection, so there's no fluctuation in speed or anything.

I'll take your word for it and update y'all on if it completes. Worse comes to worse, If it doesn't download in the next few hours, I'll have to uinstall and reinstall, not something I want to do, but baring any other workarounds, that's the last ditch effort that comes to mind sadly.

I'm stuck in a download loop as well. Got decent hardware and connection etc etc. My download says 130 mb and it just never finishes.

Any workarounds? I just wanna play the darn game.

one thing to keep in mind, for some crazy reason, it makes a complete copy of itself in your steam install folder. this is legit the reason i dont play it anymore

No workaround. Took me almost 3 hours to install a 1G patch. As @Zerassar said, just leave it alone and let it do it's thing. This was a very annoying experience, but it finally finished.

100% normal. it extracts the new content and keeps a backup of the old content during the install. If the update fails this system is meant to allow it to roll back the changes.

It's not a "complete" copy of the game. Just the content that's being changed. In some cases that can be a lot though.

1GB in download size... Doesn't really tell you the expanded size of the download or exactly how much work is involved. It's not intuitive.
