Personally I play with gathering set higher to like 3 or 4.0 at least especially when single player.
I would put my recommendations on making a trap that consists of a few gateways and gates, but with a hole you can slip through without opening doors and knock 'er out
Not with that attitude you can't.
If you're not high enough for a Bronto saddle.... id suggest taming close to home as possible.... otherwise... its kinda just bad luck
The first sentence is reasonable....
My first solo tame on this game was actually a bronto at lvl 20, so it's definitely doable (granted I did get given a longneck rifle from my tribe but the rest was still all me, lol).
