"Gamey", like, it's less about open-world sandbox and more like "go to point X, tame this thing that makes the area accessible and Less Dangerous", I dunno. That's just the impression I got from looking at Extinction, SE, and Genesis. Seemed like Ubisoft.
TLDR: It's a super duper hard map but where's the fun of it if it's easy.
Just don't feel the need to rush the map, it is pretty unique compared to the others and even with oil being scarce you can craft Gasoline with gas and green gems. It changes up the play style of the other maps for sure!
The early ones, SE and Ab retain the slow "grind" upward to later mechanics, the later ones skip large chunks of it for the kiddies to get to their PVP drama.
But all DLC have really cool new mechanics, which Ark has always excelled at ... having. Inventing doesnt fit and they arent always well implemented but by golly it has them ;)
Shoot if anything SE is harder because it takes a while until the heat is conquerable.
You have 4 main biomes, the surface, the fertile zone or green zone, the bioluminescent swamp or blue zone, and the irradiated zone or red zone. There's micro biomes in each one as well.
There are new unique and dangerous creatures that will keep you on your toes till endgame.
The bossfight is less about grinding out OP tames and more about skill.
Bulbdogs are adorable ugly little bastards.
The artdesign is simply stunning, but it is a bit more taxing on your pc. If you play sp keep in mind that this map is like a trap and it is difficult to get away from it in case you don´t have a tek transmitter, because all the obelisks are in an area that is not easy to reach alive due to the insane amounts of reapers there.
The new tools like climbing hook, zip line, wings are amazing and offer new ways to play the game and are needed, because there are no fliers allowed in Aberation.
It´s by far the best DLC in my opinion.
