Crafting Skill
Hello Ark Experts!

I'm fairly new to the game, and I've just started on a small dedicated server with some friends... I have a weird/stupid/basic question about the Crafting Skill.

Mainly, is it worth putting skill points in? I'm at level 74 at the moment and just used a mindwipe tonic and can't decide if i should be putting points into it?

My friend put some skills into it and has about 200% crafting and the only benefit they can see is that it increases the speed items create, does it have any other effect? If you're a higher percentage are you more likely to get non primative items? Or get better quality items from the random supply drops?

I've tried googled and i can't get a stupid potato intelligence level (e.g. me being a dumbo!)

Unless you are putting every point into crafting, not really. You just have to plan and mind wipe before crafting a bunch of BP.

There is no point having crafting skill points for your normal running around character build.

What the person above me said. But the long version is....
  • If you're making a custom recipe, the quality is locked in with the crafting skill the recipe was originally created with; so you might as well mindwipe after creating the recipes with a high crafting skill and not put any points after the wipe into the skill.
  • If you have a blueprint, crafting skill adds a chance to produce an item above the blueprint's quality, but is capped at a certain amount based on how far above 100% the blueprint is. 100% bp will always be 100% item; but at 200% can yield a 267% on a good roll with max crafting skill. So even then, you're better off putting point elsewhere until you have some good bp's and plenty of materials to make lots of them to get multiple chances for best outcome. source[ark.gamepedia.com]

Step 1. Find really good blueprints.
Step 2. Farm materials for the blueprints, enough for 10-100 uses of the blueprint.
Step 3 (optional). Fill crafting station with the materials.
Step 4. Mindwipe, put all points in Crafting. If you skipped step 3, have fun carrying all those materials with no carry capacity.
Step 5. Craft until you get a satisfying result, or run out of materials.
Step 6. Mindwipe, put points into stats that will help when you return to Step 1 and 2.

For BP its adds some RNG that can get you better stuff.

But its RNG. So if you need a good gun, plan to make like 10-20 guns.

You get a roll that can give better items yeah.
I made a crafting character for it though, saves me time in the long run.

Some s+ servers have all items enabled on the s+ blueprint maker.... with that + crafting skill... you can max out any equip that is higher then primitive.
still you gotta hope RNG is on your side as even with max crafting skill it's still random what % you'll get, still only mindwipe for crafting skill if your sure your wanting to craft with a blueprint to get a very good number.


and do be aware that the higher the blueprints quality is the more resources it will cost you, for example Ascendant blueprints cost 3.5x the number of resources required, mastercraft is 2.5x, journeyman is 2x, apprentice is 1.67x and lastly ramshackle is 1.33x

so do keep in mind that if your working with an ascendant blueprint it's going to take a lot space in terms of resources (replicators can help as those have 600 slots) as many blueprints do require high amounts of fiber, hide & metal ingots so having creatures who specialize in those resources can help greatly along with having a storage (vaults preferably) thats dedicated to 1 type of resource

Oh that's cool. So many s+ settings. The default is just structures though, so I doubt most people know about it.

The beauty of it is you can turn an apprentice item into max stats... but keep the apprentice crafting costs.

Yeah. Same loophole as the upgrade station.
