Is Scorched Earth good for singleplayer?
Or am I better off with the Island

I would say your better of with the island or the other free maps

If you're new to the game mechanics, don't play Scorched Earth on SP, you'll get caned. If you like dying heaps and can handle lots of setbacks, it's a solidly tough start with lots of challenges. Transferring in with good stuff does make it easier so you could try that too.

Is it really that hard? Damn.

Then I guess the island is less tedious for SP

I actually like scorched earth, but it's much harder than the island (which is also my favourite for single player). I'd go island first, then move onto scorched earth. If you're playing single player (and change the settings a bit to make it less grindy) in some ways it's probably easier than PvP or PvE servers as you can set up a bases near water and not have to worry about other players already taking the best spots or raiding your base.

IMO scorched earth is easier for SP than abberation. (Haven't played extinction or the free maps enough yet to comment on them.)

To start with you will die a lot, eventually you will die less, watch nooblets video how to get started on SE they should change name to Generator Repair Simulator 2019

I find The Island more tedious because once you have a perimeter up and a few good dinos you are effectively grinding for grinds sake. At least with SE there is stuff you cannot control so you may find yourself grinding for survival, a whole new matter.

Don't get me wrong though, it's not toooooo hard, but it would be if you're new. It's about survival, for quite some time.

Scorched Earth may honestly be my favorite because it is indeed hard and I love the unique environmental effects. I wish every map would have those but I know people probably wouldnt agree. Having a jerboa to give warnings is awesome imo and a cool idea. If your not experienced you will die a lot on SE.

Scorched Earth is almost unfair in how hard it is to start. I would recommend the island for a while

Scorched is the 2nd map in the game progression/Lore .... conquer TheIsland.... and you will survive Scorched.....

Start on Scorched 1st... with no prior experience.... and you will h8 Ark.

An experienced player has no trouble on SE.... no joke.

It is harder than The Island, but it is a different experience, the only issue i have is that it does not have an ascension to Aberration.

Scorched earth is a good map to migrate your Ascended character from The Island since you will have decent Fort.

Yeah, I'm playing Scorched earth on a non-ascended character and the first bit is really hard. Similar to the island, there's lots of things that like to eat newly spawned players, but on top of that I died several times from the heat before I could craft some protective clothing and find food, water and shelter. If you haven't played ark much, agree with the others and start with the island first or you'll probably hate it as too difficult.

Once you've got a basic shelter, a jerboa (portable weather alarm), access to water and a few dinos, it starts getting a bit easier from there. You don't have to play with an ascended character to make it work (although it probably speeds progress up.) I like the unpredictable weather and that you need to think ahead to survive it. Sometimes it'll drive you crazy and certainly adds an extra layer of difficulty but it keeps it interesting.

Edit: Also recommend you read a few guides/watch some newbie videos on how to set the controls for single player. There's a few things you can do which makes it much less of a grind on SP.

@Dradiin I didn't realise there was no ascention to to aberration. That seems kind of odd since you can transfer from the island to scorched earth. (I kind of thought that was the idea if you wanted to play them in order instead of together.)

Yeah WildCard dropped the ball on Scorched Earth, they talked about an ascension for it, but it never happened.

I was hoping someone would just mod in some of the boss fights from other maps and make a modded Ascension experience.

LOL now i kinda want to go on SE again (glutton for punishment).

If the game becomes too tedious. Consider raising multipliers for harvesting. The default harvesting rates are not meant for single players, it's meant to be for tribes in bigger numbers and contribute to building and taming.

I think 3x-5x harvesting rate is an ideal rate for most single player runs. Breeding should be very high in multipliers as single player freezes time when you log off though. But that's entirely up to you.

With that out of the way. I strongly recommend doing TheIsland first until tek cave, then do Scorched Earth next (make sure you upload your character and any dinos you want) and beat the boss there. Once Scorched Earth boss is down, I'd go back to TheIsland and complete tek cave. That's how I feel the order should be as that was the case during the beta.

I have managed to survive the Island, Scorched Earth, Aberration, and soon Extinction, all in single player, so yeah, it's alright.
