Is your dino count low? Normally Salt Flats, Mountains and Snow should be bustling with activity.

Def something on your end. A setting or a mod. On the cluster I play on, they're very prevalent

There is your issue "Single Player". You got hit by the "resources do no longer respawn issue" - yes, Dinosaurs and animals DO count as resources. Once this bug hits there is nothing you can do to fix it on single player. According to the Ark Devs this bug is "no big deal" and not even a "bug" - it shall make your single player game more "challenging" - and it fall fails you can simply "cheat in" what you need. Not my words, this are the words of the Ark devs. :)
However there is one way to prevent this from happening: Turn you resources respawn timer down to 0.01 and only log out once the resource you gathered (for example "kill a stone") respawned back (log out once the stone you "killed" came back).
The only fix for your poor map - could and I say could be - to install your own ark server by using the Ark server manager on your very own PC. Load in your single player map into that server and cross fingers. In some cases the respawn notes that are broken get repaired and your single player world should be working again. Now load the map back into your single player game and have a look. Good luck!
If you have enough of this bug get yourself the Ark Server Manager and play on your very own server, no such "bug" - sorry "feature" - is existing when playing on a server.
