Long answer is under certain conditions. I've never seen a server take 15 minutes to realize a player has disconnected and changed the player to offline, it's around 30 seconds. With that several things can cause you to survive. Some servers have an offline protection even in pve that makes you and all you tames and structures invulnerable while offline. Another thing is disconnecting and that area is no longer loaded so no actions take place until it's loaded again by a player.
How ever if you disconnect there is still that window to be killed regardless. I've disconnected and have survived and been killed on pve. It's just luck of the draw if something gets you or not.
If you dc frequently on that server, try going to the Steam tab in the menu on steam and selecting "Settings" and then selecting "In Game". From there, go down to in game browser: max pings/min. Set to 250. This will slow down the queries and tends to make dc's in this manner lessened. Only down side is your servers for favorites/mysurvivor etc slow down to show on your list for getting in to those servers but a little bit but I think that's a smaller price to pay.
Oh trust me, I understand this company takes like a year to fix anything. Been playing since 2015, but hot damn I still find it insane...
