Flying through the redwoods for the first time on my Pteranadon and getting ganked by a sabertooth from the top of a tree.... I had no idea there was a giant tree climbing cat called a Thylacoleo, scared the crap out of me and i stayed away from the redwoods for quite sometime after that.

Kaprosuchus. When I first started and got to level 5 I was eager to find a white loot drop to open. I spotted one a fair bit inland from where my bob hut was and I didn’t know swamps existed so I got really close to one and this alligator lunges at me from out of nowhere and kills me. I stayed on the beach for a good irl month after that lol

The only dino that still gives me the willies is the Giganotosaurus. I always carry a bolas when running with friends so I can bolas him and run away.

Back when I first started though? Having a Spino jump you out of nowhere while trying to passive tame some trapped dinos can get the blood flowing. The Mosasaurus is certainly a terrifying creature for someone early in their singleplayer to encounter while cave/ pearl hunting. Any of the Wyverns and Reapers gave me some near heart attacks and I still avoid them when possible.

Quite a few small dinos like Raptors and Dilos can be scary if you get jumped by a large enough pack of them while distracted.

Plesiosaurs. They always give me heart attacks.

Back when I was on official servers during the beta, I often go underwater to farm pearls (before anglers got their pearl farming buffs) with a shark. The level cap was lower, and plesios were always at least lvl 35 (for some weird reason) and spawn in twos with a huge aggro radius. I usually never see them, and they always appear behind me, scaring the crap out of me.

It was meant mainly as a joke, but I have bolas'd people when we ran into a Gigas and I wasn't prepared.

I think the Sarco was my first, but my all-time favorite scare (and death) was by a Giga in the south jungles on The Center back before they fixed the Giga spawns.

first raptor when first started was chaseing parasaur raptor ambushed me killed it sort of yea i did it and just in time to hear THUD and turn to see open maw of T rex. and all i could think in my head as i stared at respawn screen was "welcome to ARK" in the monotone welcome to jurrassic park voice in the jurrasic park game on super nintendo XD

Well, just got introduced to Thylacoleo the hard way. Never saw it coming. Took me off my mount while flying fast away from a tyrannosaur and shredded me in seconds. Damn...
