Assuming a full stack of food, how long can I be offline before tamed dinosaurs start starving?
To my understanding, stacks of food last....four times longer in a dinosaur? A stack of 100 Mejoberries should last about 2.78 days, stack of raw meat should last 0.55 days, etc. etc. and dinosaurs normally won't eat anything if they're not moving.

That being said, my friend and I recently lost a dinosaur who was in enclosed space above the ground and covered from the air. Last I check two days ago it had 50 Mejoberries on it which probably spoiled by now.

Is it possible our dinosaur starved despite not moving around or could something have attacked it through the walls? Of course it is possible I was careless and left the doors open but I am quite sure I closed them.

Comments are appreciated,

Thank you

Check the tribe log. If it got killed or starved it will specifically say that. If it says nothing it probably fell through the mesh and is lost. If possible there are pet finder mods to help find and retrieve lost dinos.

Yes, but at a slower rate. Most of the original Dino's would take about 2 weeks to starve to death while stationary.

As JS said, your tribe log will tell you how it died. If you got no message then it means it was purged by the game instead in some fashion for different reasons.

Based on the information, your dino didnt starve. Remember they dont starve immediately their hunger stat just starts to drop slowly as if trying to consume food(in stasis if you've not logged int too so even slower). Typically if a dino is at full health and full food(depending both on the health and food stat too mind you) and such, it can last for weeks before dying.

Thank you for the response and clarification. Seem it was me who goofed. I forgot I had our dinosaur on follow and when I left his pen up in some hills to return to our main base, the dinosaur left the pen and wandered down the hill to me. My friend found it in a river and was almost dead. Didn't think the dinosaurs could open the dino gate on their own....clever girl....

Still, good to know we don't need to be too concern about our dinosaurs starving if we're offline for an extended period of time.

Tames cannot open doors on their own. Period.

I think you know they're just trying to deflect mistakes made on their part.

But while the game AI doesnt have them naturally opening doors, technically they can glitch through structures of any sort unfortunately due to various potential conditions. They also can find ways to climb over structures(such as low walls with crafting stations acting as stairs for em) and more.

All in all they've had their issue sorted and are probably a bit wiser for the wear.

Thank you for the insight. I know I goofed with leaving our dinosaur on follow which led to it leaving its pen and following me but I am quite sure I closed the dino gate. I left the pen throgh a separate regular door so have no explanation as to how it escaped except for what you're describing. We have had brontosauraus climbing over our walls but I assume that was just due to them being so bloody tall.

Bronts in the like have to have around 3 walls or higher height in order to prevent them from climbing over. However any structures placed near a wall that they can climb on can act as a sort of stairs to allow them then to climb higher. Rocks, differences in terrain etc can also factor.

Dino left on wander will simply pass through wall while you are away, i think it has something to do with area being unloaded and loaded again when you get near and dino can glitch through wall while it is unloaded. I had a triple layer barn and dino left on wander would always get lost on fields outside...

dino's don't technically wonder when no one is around to render them. However, dino's are loaded in by rendering before structures. And for some reason, this allows creatures to pass through them. Even tho, server side, the server should be aware there is something there blocking the creature's path.

Probably lost due to a bug as it takes literally weeks to starve a dino to death. We had a ravager stuck in a place not even an admin could resolve and it had no food/saddle on it.

It was there for about 2-3 weeks but we did a new server... I like to think it lives on... stuck there for eternity.

There was also once a spino on an server with official settings that we thought had to be bugged... it was in a safe spot and sat there unfed for about four months.

Spinos likes to bug underearth. In search of their lake home.
