Why are so many people playing Ark?
I've seen game-play and before I looked at the price I thought it was a nice effort. The AI is horrendous and physics are broken so how can so many people enjoy this game? It seems to play more like a $15 game rather than $60. Does it have some hidden redeeming property I just haven't seen?
I'm not asking to troll; I legitimately want to know what it is about this game people have enjoyed so much.

this is by far one of the most dynamic games, if you don't just follow guides to quick end game.

I play it wit honly 1gb on my graphic card(i ahve 2gb more ready to install ,it should be nice fo rthe bigger maps) and the game runs fairly smooth

i have been wondering the same thing then i buy ark and get angry cause some stupid game breaking thing happens and i lose 2 hours but then i always come back to ark because the fact that i can do what i want i can be a trader selling metal and blueprints or a pirate or whatever else the glitches and bugs arent that bad the more you will play the more you will know how not to get into those situations

The game is great, when it works! The problem is, when it doesn't it shows.

I think it's just because of how freely customizable it is...
You play the game... how you want to play it. The game fully caters to the person playing.

That alone gives you endless replayability. And hey when it does get a bit stale you have the mod workshop just a click away!

simply said, i love the immersion in ARK

and i love dino(taming, breeding hunting)...another detail worth mentioning, mod and server setup make it so ,u can play with setting you like, and it add alot of replayability

map are well made, very beautyfull eyesight and if you like to explore uncharted area , then ARK is filled with danger and secret

many open world survival out there but none are even close to what ARK is

and its not a matter of quality, but content.....every of those game have crafting, building, exploring.but none let you ,, tame, ride dino(even less zombie). the breeding is something very nice as well adding in alot more hour of gameplay, and when i say many, it is really MANY.....thousen of dino, keeping record of each dna strand ,,and it goes very deep, on each end every step

the game being fully playable alone , but way less fun this way
it shine when you play with other, i mean, i dont like crafting, building, breading(when solo) and im good in the wilderness(being behind the fence in safety isnt for me) i mean there something for everybody,

i could go on and on ,im a lil bit "fan boy ish" >.>

there is alot of Role Play in this game >even if you don't try , with so many options to personalize your compound and Dinos

..I would say it has a jurassic D&D feel to it (yea d&d, had guns in some modules/campaigns)
I've been here from day 1, ark has it good & bad side, like every game, but it has always been fun to play, personally i haven't encountered any bugs myself.
I got to admit that the devs are horrible at communicating, they tend to delay updates without saying why or how, but other than that it has been a blast.

there is something to do for every type of player, also: M O D S

I personally haven't played very much of the game, but I can see where the appeal comes from. It's very unique (with the inclusion of dinosaurs, of course) and I guess the concept is something that attracts a lot of people. The dinosaurs look hideous, but I can excuse that because they're technically alien mutant things and I can sometimes get a laugh out of how ridiculous they look. So it's a dinosaur game for the more mainstream types, managing to appeal to a wider audience than something like Saurian.

Really, there doesn't seem to be any other game like it. The Isle seems to be going for somewhat similar gameplay, but it is a much bigger mess than ARK.

Personally, I play because I have friends who play - Friends can make anything better. I bought ark back when it launched on steam, so it was... 15? 25? bucks. I would never pay 60 - even with my hours in it. Otherwise, I stay away from ark - I didn't start truly playing it till like 3ish months ago.

Check your grammar before you count a person's library and call 2 games "most of the library"-did you know that steam isn't the only place to buy or play games? You obviously didn't bother checking your own sources. There's something to consider. Do you know what twitch is? I'm not trying to troll but apparently people these days think everything implying a negative comment points to bashing and trolling.

Well, I've been playing the game for 2 years before the price was bumped up. Honestly, I don't know why I still play it so much. I enjoy the customization of singleplayer. I like the fact that there are so many unofficial servers to play on and that they don't last too long. Yes I know that sounds strange, but essentially when one unofficial server closes, I'm forced to restart and I guess I enjoy that appeal rather then managing to reach end game quickly, it's a nice refresh from weeks of constant work on that one base, or that special amount of tamed creatures. Another aspect is the fact that there are so many mods for the game now too. Rather then being forced to play it from vanilla standards all the time, people have gone out of their way to provide more and more content to a game that already gave a rather unique experience. Taming and riding dinos while making a base to survive and ascend is a pretty interesting concept, but when you throw the mods in things can go from basic dinos who can gather to overhauls of creatures that have elements to them, crafting abilities, or even the decrative mods that allow people to express their building creativity. Now that's more pve based, there's also the pvp play. Lots of people enjoy the concept of battle and adding in guns and dinos can make for a rather exciting experience (mind you, I'm a pve person by nature simply because I don't like seeing all my progress get wiped out because of raiders, but that's only me). It becomes a challenge to become the strongest tribe out there and people will spend lots of time taming the perfect tames and breeding to get the strongest dinos as well as creating better defenses, so as to prevent other tribes from taking them out quickly. True that the price is rather high, and 2 years ago I got the game at 20 bucks rather then it's now full release price. Bugs are still a given, and the ragdolls are there, but I don't really find myself seeing the game priced at 15. I got the game on sale, only reason I paid the 20, it was normally 30. Now that it's fully released I would almost feel that 40 would have been a more appropriate price especially seeing as the game has had a longer history of being out, but as an Early Access game. No doubt the main reason for the hike in price is to help cover any extra costs that it takes to continue working on the game. Since there are several more versions of the game being released soon (Pixel Ark and the VR version of ARK) there are likely costs that need to be covered there too. Whatever the reason, it's a game definitely worth getting and if you manage to find folks to play with everything is a lot easier to do, and a lot more comical when starting out.
