Having trouble breeding otters

So I've been breeding a lot of otters over the past couple of days and it's no easy job at all. I'm on an unofficial server with breeding x10, which is fine. I get the baby otters, give them plenty of fish only to find out that they're not eating it. So I'm force feeding them until juvenille, from which they mostly start eating on their own. However, more and more of my otters seem to die, even while eating. I just had a juvenille otter who was eating fine. I took a few fish out of it's inventory because another baby was about to pop out, and the second I did that, the juvenille died. It had plenty of food, it's food stat was fine, and it just dropped dead. I've lost about 15 otters and I just don't know what goes wrong.
Now my base and breeding/hatch room is above sea level and sometimes my newborns fall under the floor and I have to get them out of the water first. Does it might have something to do with it? All of my other bred dino's are fine.
