Low level fatal error D3D **FIX 2019**
******EDIT******
-Ignore all steps below all you have to do is turn terrain shadows to low

Hey, I have had this issue ever since i bought my rtx 2070 8gb but i have researched it has affected other graphics cards so this should work for most people.

Step 1. Update graphics card driver (obvious step) then restart pc

Step 2. Download msi afterburner, turn everything down and ONLY turn fan speed up (Make sure the version of msi afterburner allows u to turn UP your graphics card fan speed) **very important^^** (i turned mine up to 40%)

Step 3. Go into SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\ARK\ShooterGame\Binaries\Win64
(right click on shootergame.exe, properties Compatibility mode, run program on windows 7) and ALSO tick the box in the same tab to run this program as an ADMINISTRATOR.

Step 4. On steam library right click ark, properties, general, set launch options.
Then copy/paste in: -USEALLAVAILABLECORES

Step 5. Go back into ark properties via steam, local files and verify integrity of game files

This fixed the problem for me and i have been able to run the game on epic settings ever since without it showing this error.

Please let me know if this helped you, i know the grief it caused me so i pray this also works for you!

1. MSI afterburner has been cited many times to cause issues for people.

2. nvidia has released 2 driver updates in the last few iterations to address some crash issues both for ark and for the 2000 series cards specifically.

3. D3D issues have been plaguing Unreal Engine 4 games for a very long time now and Epic keeps kiting fixes for it. You can see from their issues page here: https://issues.unrealengine.com/issue/UE-51650

4. Verifying file integrity is mostly a placebo that people throw out and mostly do so when they see it saying 1-3 files requiring fixes(its related to the dynamics with server listings actually).

And I could go on....

Suffice to say that while you feel your set of things is a "fix" its not, necessarily. At best its a work around that currently works for your rig set up that minimizes the d3d issue occurences but does not guarantee it from occurring for you in the future and certainly not for others with different hardware combinations.

Hey, thanks for the detailed post. Tried the Win7 and Admin compatibility settings and all available cores, have already tried the other stuff. Stable OC and aggressive fan curve on 2080. Lower windowed res, epic/epic shadows, about 60-90% gpu power and use, 60fps vsync. Got pretty far on my speed argy but crashed with low level 3d error after 10 minutes. Back to terrain shadows low for me.

My work around that seems to be working as I’ve been playing over a week now with out crashes. I used useallavailablecores and nomansky in launch options. Set terrain shadows to low. Running two gtx 1080ti in Sli no over clock. 32gb ram. May help may not.

This is the umpteenth post you've made in other people's threads. Post in your own thread and cite your Steam detected system information, mod use, 3rd party programs, ingame screen shot'd settings and more.

Ranting saying "Im crashing" in 5+ threads of others is silly.

Hey man try playing with terrain shadows on low (it worked for me)

I used to have the same error and crashing with Ark, spent weeks talking to Ark and NVIDIA support, and what finally fixed it for me was RMA’ing my GPU ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
What some people also don’t understand is, that you can have the same error as someone else, but caused by something totally different with a different solution as well. Saying something like “This will fix this error for everyone” would be very misleading.

Right click on Ark in your Steam Library, select Properties and click "Set Launch Options..." and enter -sm4

I cant even start my ark , not even with adding -sm4 to the Launch Options , so how do i put Terrain Shadows on Low if i cant even reach the main menu - > options

Then your issue is likely not the same as the OP. Their specific issue I believe was resolved in recent driver patches.

For yours, start a new thread :-)

If anyone's on single player, having issues still, and already had terrain shadows on low, then lower your draw distance that worked for me. also get into the habit of hitting tab and typing 'cheat saveworld' life saver. countless hours rescued.

Again this falls into the category of turning down your settings below what is recommended by one's gpu. It categorically does -not- fix the problem it simply minimizes the occurrences of it.

Again Epic, the maker of the game engine acknowledges this issue cannot be resolved and keeps kiting a true fix for it as I linked above just one jira about it.

Still a current issue. I’m on an RTX 2060 mobile

My fix was turning on the swap file. Even though I had enough vram and ran to spare.
