How's the Australian unofficial population?
I'm considering starting the torturously long download and giving the game another go, but don't particularly feel like restarting from scratch every 12 hours on the official servers. How's the unofficial PvP server count in our region? Does it favour specific maps/game modes (default or primitive)? What have your experiences been thus far?

Edit: For clarification, I am not looking for a US/EU server. There's too much lag.

Use battlemetrics site to search by country.

its good mate, there are a few boosted servers (like 100x and 150x) for crazy fast and stacked pvp with very little rules, and then you have the rest, which range from 1-3x all, too 50x this and that, some have really really slow day times, so the server might look fresh, but its actually months old. check tittles for quick mod lists, also, you will be hard pressed these days too find a map that is not extinction which does not have extinction dino's on it... thats the worst part, everyone has all dino's mods on each map, sucks.

im on a rag server, that is a boosted (15x i think) PVP server, with active owner/admins, only 7 mods, so nothing crazy. pretty good small community so far, server is only like 3/4 weeks old.

Hmm, ok. Extinction's the rapid-wipe cycle mode, yeah? I'm hoping for something that doesn't wipe too often, it at all (might be a pipe dream, but who knows).

Could I grab the name of that server? I might give it a go once the download's done. It's going to be about a week or so before I can play, though.

Extinction is the latest DLC ... not refering to extinction wipe servers

trouble with Aus ark servers is its a small player base spread over different servers

Well, I came back today and after being kicked from an extinction server for no apparent reason, I went back to a slightly boosted server on the island and I'm just playing by myself at the moment. I have a wooden base up but I'll be upgrading to a nice metal base within the next week.

If anyone wants a casual friend to play with, add me on steam. I juggle ark with personal commitments and I have discord as well so we can have a bit of fun and build up together.

(Don't add me if you are an autistic teenager, adults only)

Ah, gotcha. Thanks for the clarification.

Yeah, a big part of my reluctance to come back is finding a decent PvP server with good admins. I loathe starting over from scratch (Ark's level grind is outright carcinogenic on anything remotely resembling default rates), and as Vesuvius has pointed out the population of my corner of the world is fairly small. I've yet to have a genuinely good experience with the game that hasn't involved a private server or borderline unplayable lag >.<

once you download the game, go back into the server search menu and change to un-official, all servers will pop up, give it around 5 mins too load, as the game will load EVERY server in the background, but only show the ones you ask for in the current window. its a joke i know, but thats how the dev team rolls.

not that it stops it (only reduces it) go into steam options and change server search settings where you set the maximum ping search, i limit mine to 250ms and still get servers popping up with 1000ms+, but like i said, i get less after changing this setting (this means faster searches for servers)

put a few servers into your favourites the first time you search for servers, this will allow you too come back to the fav's menu and not have to search again for every server again, that way if you do not like the one you are on, its easy to get onto another one you liked.

also, when joining servers with mods, the game will most likely say "connection time out" this means the timer ran out for you too connect while the mods had not yet downloaded or installed. have the steam downloads window open so you can watch the progress of the mods coming in, simply head back too the main menu (in game) until the mod that was currently downloading is finished then try too connect again, it will work every time.

Once you boot up Ark kSp.... Dont even look at the in game server list.

Go to battlemetrics.com and search there... then you can see ALL servers with zero lag. ...server activity.... server age etc... and you can join directly from battlemetrics.

Battlemetrics is the most comprehensive list of Ark servers bar none.... 3.5k hrs ( not that this is any kind of indicator but you brought it up 😜) and run servers for most of those.... if your server doesnt show on battlemetrics... 9.9 x out of 10 its because its down and the 10th time because your ports aren't forwarded correctly.

Arkservers.net for example is a different story as it requires the admin to register their server.

M8 of mine had a full official map pvp cluster running on high speed connection out of queensland... but the player numbers/interest simply weren't there.... wich is the number 1 killer for Aus based servers.

He is running Atlas grid instead.

Seems counter intuitive perhaps given the much more finite numbers currently playing that game but if he's perhaps one of the only AU servers then he may be fortunate for numbers I suppose.

Yes... there are very few Atlas servers... and even fewer running 3x3 or 4x4 grids.
