You can hervest small amounts from sheep, megaloceros, equus, beavers, megatherium or the kangaroo. which can be found in the redwoods.
However at your level both zones are rather dangerous so always be on guard and don't venture to far in.
Gathering pelt is best done with a hatchet
There's an area just south of the edge of the snowy areas on the west coast. Some people refer to it as the "Mosh Pit," because absurd numbers of creatures spawn there and usually instantly begin to attack each other. I've very rarely seen wolves join in, either because they spawned in the Mosh Pit or because they wandered in from the snow just to the north. If you start there and work east, you might be able to find wolves near the edge of the snowy areas without going so far in you freeze and die. The area is easy to find, just go up the west coast and stop at the floating ice.
The Mosh Pit is also a place to tame argentavis, carnotaurs, sabertooths, scorpions and even hyenadons if you really want one (and can get it out of the rolling barfight before it gets killed. You'll need to look up a guide on taming one though, they're a weird passive tame and would rather freak out and run around in a panic until they starve unless you tame them *just so.*)
No, the ingredients are not too practical for a low level. It takes a LOT of of pelts to make fur armor. And the animals don't give you very much, even with increased gather rates.
Just make short excursions into the cold for now for the necessities. Take a raft up there with lots of campfires. Then you can jump off, gather a bit and then run back and get warm before you take much damage from the cold.
So aside from the southern shores like Footpaw to Southeast Coast and Herbie Island, what level is a good time to start venturing northward inland. And where is a good place to start? Or should I just stick to going up the east or west coastlines of the mainland?
