This "more often" doesn't apply to fertilized eggs.
Also sometimes eggs will fall through floors, so this could be what is happening that you aren't noticing the eggs being produced. And if these eggs are fertilized (produced from mating) then there could also be the chance that they are decaying/spoiling before you see them as fertilized eggs will die and disappear if they sit for too long in the wrong temperature.
Unfertilized eggs don't have to worry about temperature as there isn't anything to incubate. :P
One thing you have to watch out for, eggs can fall thru foundations and floors. If you want o breed them it would be best to have them surrouned by a fence, but no foundations under them. Just keep them fenced in on bare ground.
