Solving a dispute -- does force feeding dinosaurs tame them faster?
A friend and I were taming a T-Rex, without kibble, and we had killed a nearby alpha raptor which gave us a number of prime meat. I switched the regular, raw meat we were initially using with this stack of prime meat instead because I know that works better.

Shortly afterwards, my friend force-fed this T-Rex the entire stack of raw prime meat all at once, which had to be around twelve in quantity. My idea was to just let the prime meat sit in the dinosaur's inventory to allow the dinosaur to automatically consume it once it was hungry enough, because I've noticed that force feeding unconscious dinosaurs doesn't seem to work in taming it faster. I believe that you should only force feed narcotics to ensure the dinosaur remains asleep. Furthermore, the taming percentage on the T-Rex didn't increase after being manually fed 10+ prime meat, but she is convinced it helped. When I mentioned it's useless to force feed meat, she didn't believe my observations and wanted proof. So, asking for a friend, is it better to just let the dinosaur eat the meat by itself whenever it gets hungry or to force feed it?

For additional confirmation, I've noticed that meat (such as prime meat) doesn't expire as quickly if left in a dinosaur's inventory as it does the player's. She was worried that the prime meat was going to expire before it could be consumed, which I think is what partly influenced the decision to force feed the prime meat, since it normally expires much quicker than regular meat.

Thanks.

Force feeding does not make taming faster.

I'm pretty sure you actually lose taming effectiveness too, so yea don't force feed to tame. Only to heal.

Nah you don't lose taming effectiveness.

It loses taming effectiveness by force feeding anything but narcs. It loses effectiveness even when it eats on it's own.

Really? I don't make a habit of force feeding but if I'm spamming narcotics and happen to force a bit of food after the stack runs out I've not noticed a loss in taming effectiveness

Creatures will only gain taming when it's able to "fully" eat something. A prime meat fills 50 food when taming so the creature will need to drop it's food at least 50 points before it will gain taming. Force feeding will just continuously keep the food full and it will never gain taming and will also lose taming effectiveness each time it eats forced or not.

I am unsure if force feeding while its food is low enough will tame it, I've never tested it.

Now you have me curious. It's possible it's been changed. I'm gonna test it and see what happens.

It's been changed. Force feeding a carno raw meat and raw prime did nothing to the effectiveness, nor did stiming it. Both used to drop effectiveness. How ever stims no longer make food drop faster, just torpor. Meat while it didn't drop taming effectiveness, it did make the taming progression drop, all the way to 0. How ever it did heal the unconscious wild carno which is interesting.

force feeding doesnt tame them at all .... they have to feed on their own or you get no taming effectiveness at all.
