Can you compress ARK and is it safe ?
I have seen a video of ark being compressed and it saves around 100 gb on your system. But the question is can it hurt the game ?

Yes you can but it is probably a bad idea because the game performance would suffer terribly

I have a laptop with motherboard upside down. Upgrading it is a pain in the ass and I can only add M.2 SSD which is pretty expensive.

Compact is a reputable Win10 tool that does just this with no performance hit on a wide range of titles.

My ark was at 600+ before I started deleting mods. The size is currently at 335 GB. Some mods are definitely huge. Probably a good idea to uninstall maps you hardly go to also. I hardly ever go to the center and valguero so might uninstall those as too.

do you have to re-do it every time the game updates ?

Yes you will. Files that are changed will be decompressed

A 500Gb hard drive is Stone Age technology and upgrading is so cheap it's an insult to listen to people shed tears over the matter. The SSD whiners - tedious in the extreme - who say their peanut-sized storage capacity is almost entirely used up by Ark also need to shell out and upgrade. Heck, some are still trying to cram stuff onto a 200Gb SSD when a 500Gb SSD is only around £60.

500 GB's HDD is not a stone age technology. It is enough for most computers. £60 can be earned only through 30 hours of work in some countries. It may be cheap for you but for others it can be expensive and if people are trying to shrink the game, they most likely can't buy an upgrade at this moment.

Right now I'm using fewer mods these days. Simple spawners, this mod pretty much does everything other add on creature mods do to any map. S plus of course, huge stacks, better beacons, modern weaponary, pimp my dino and a few other small mods like better spyglass.

I'd love to play ARK again but it takes up 128GB fsr
Stupid devs not compressing their files...
How i was able to run the game on a notebook a decade ago is a mystery

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
