Same trick works on [alpha] Raptors, Dire Wolves, and other small-to-medium-sized carnivores. Not so much for Rexes, as there aren't many rocks that are tall enough to stay out of a Rex's reach.
Are you sure that's right? I think the only restriction would be crafting the saddle. They'd still be able to ride the dino.
