Singleplayer having trouble getting red gems.

In order to get gas balls for the hazmat suit, I need red gems (for the gas valve.) Twenty, which is a-freaking-lot if you're gathering them all on your lonesome. Thusly I really want to avoid farming these through roll rats and earthquakes if I can.

Does anyone know of any red gems in non-irradiated places?

Roll rats when they come out the ground leave gems. These sometimes can be red.
Also in the blue area when there is an earthquake, they drop red gems

By roll rats, do you mean the process of taming one or hunting? I've yet to go very far, but I do find gas veins cough up a ball or 2 if you're patient.

The red gem crystals are kinda purple/pink but only spawn in the red zone and at the very bottom. Sadly the red zone is like 95% irradiated. Just gotta do mole rats at first. I found they tend to drop more red gems in the blue zone and more green/blue in the mushroom forest level.

If you just watch a mole rat they will burrow and come back out and toss a few gems, however, when you grab the gems they become aggressive.

I made a 3x3 trap 2 high and lure 1 rat into it when i login.
They make this certain sound - then i just check if there s something worth it.
Worked pretty well so far.

So let me get this straight. You need the gas valve in order to get gas balls to craft the radiation suit. But you need Red Gems in order to craft the gas valve. But you need the radiation suit in order to get RED GEMS!!!! Does anyone else besides me find problems in this logic? (Also I've never seen a roll rat on any level drop red gems, maybe I'm unlucky, idk)

It was pretty crappy for me too, until I made a house in the Blue Zone. In the Blue Zone, the rats seem to dig up red gems pretty often if you just wait around one for awhile and watch it dig (and each time you pick up one it should give you like 1-10 even unboosted.) The Green Zone ones much less so. I am now working on getting a beezelbufo for that 60 cementing paste for the valve. :/ Either way I would just recommend searching the blue zone with a mount that's super super fast, and be careful of rock drakes! It wasn't that bad once I realized that each picked up red gem yielded up to 2ish-20ish with my 2x drop boost, if I was lucky.

Mole rats bring up quite a bit tho. I have x3 harvesting and I can get 20 from one red gem bundle that they dig up
