Can't Place on Floor
I'm trying to build foundations, and theres an area where we're expanding our house where it wont snap or even build in general, saying "can't place on floor".. It's just me and my friend on a private server, we can't even place a wall on an already built foundation, but we can place the wall above that one (the walls for the foundations on the side had no issue). It's like a "no-build" zone but i'm not sure what's causing it.

Check your GameUserSettings.

AllowCaveBuildingPvE=False
Prevents building near Cave entrances

EnableExtraStructurePreventionVolumes=true
Prevents building near Resource heavy areas and special locations.

Change these two and there shouldn't be any forbidden zones.

You forgot one. :steammocking:

PVEAllowStructuresAtSupplyDrops=True

If it is anywhere in the neighborhood of a beacon drop you get this message also. This allows you to build in those areas.

If you're in single player, supply drop ini setting doesnt necessarily work properly.

A couple of different answers have been found. It depends on the specific cause as to which answer to use.

Maybe a screen shot of the one spot that can not be place (including the map location)

There are the odd single foundation spots that you can not build on, on the island map

But I am guessing you already have the right server setting

AllowCaveBuildingPvE=TRUE
EnableExtraStructurePreventionVolumes=FALSE
PVEAllowStructuresAtSupplyDrops=True

This assumes you're playing PVE mode on your server, otherwise two of those settings don't do anything, should be default on PVP though. I'm surprised no one has mentioned Disable Structure Placement Collision yet, that's another useful setting for private servers. Might just be that even with all these settings tuned correctly you're just building in a place that is beyond working, like off the side of a cliff or something.

That line of code added to the .ini file worked great for me, thank you. Been running into this "Can't Place on Floor" error all over the place and it really screws up some of my builds. Just so everyone is aware, in the version bought from Microsoft Store, the .ini file does not have that line at all. Like there is no PVEAllowStructuresAtSupplyDrops=False to simply edit. You need to take the PVEAllowStructuresAtSupplyDrops=True line and copy and paste that somewhere in the GameUserSettings.ini file. Thank you all for the help.

Is there any way that any of you know of to edit the .ini file to allow an increase in the structure limit? Currently, I think there is a hard limit of 6390 structures in a certain volume or radius. I keep running into this issue where I almost finish a build, and hit the structure limit. Weirdly, usually by the time it stops letting me place structures, I've already way overshot the limit.

GameUserSettings; under [Server Settings]
TheMaxStructuresInRange=10500.000000

10500.000000 is default

It also depends on where the structure is. Platforms have their own limits PerPlatformMaxStructuresMultiplier=1

1 is default

The platform limit is a multiplier. So 5 will allow 5 times as many structures as default, whereas the land based limit is number of structures. Not very consistent there, were they? :taloslol:

For some reason disabling PvE on single player solved the problem for me
