Getting Rock Drake Eggs Couldn't be More Infuriating

Every "how-to-rock-drake" video I've thus far seen has either involved God Mode or using a Rock Drake itself, so they are pointless for those of us who want to go about it in a legit manner.

Before anyone jumps on me calling me a gaming whiner, look: There's a difference between "Challenging" and "Pointlessly Infuriating." I know you're going to commence with the name-calling, so just get it all out of your system, or ignore this and go on about your day.

I enjoy "a challenge." The wyvern trench on SE? Awesome - once you learn how to get in and out, and it becomes easy, but that first time through? Really rough - a nice challenge. This effing nonsense down in the drake trench, though, is just insane.

Mounts take radiation damage, so ok, no mount to tank for me, fine. I'll try sneaking around. Can't use a ghille suit, because of the radiation, and even sneaking around means Nameless are gd everywhere, making any forward progress a pain in the ass.

I thought I'd get clever and build an elevator down. Over 400 elevator tracks and literally all day later, I hit a point where I cannot place anything anymore. JFC. Fine. Went down to the bottom and tried to find a place to build there - NOPE. Can't place structures on the bottom (at least nowhere I've thus far found.)

I get it - Rock Drakes are amazing and they should be difficult to get, but this? FFS. So I suppose next I'll try a network of ziplines, which unto themselves are maddening because half the time even though the line is green when I place the second anchor point, they vanish.

I want to love this DLC, but it's really making that hard.

I'll just brace for the incoming sodomy now, but I had to vent here where some of you probably share my pain.

all you need is a wingsuit and climbing picks, and a radiation suit

I have those, but how do you survive getting the egg back to the surface when every Rock Drake in creation swarms you?

Easiest way is to tame some throw away Spinos (level 100+ works fine) just tame a few on the surface since they are everwhere. Pump points into HP and Melee and guide them down (wild dinos don't take fall damage) get to the trench and send in the spinos to kill all the drakes. Once all drakes are dead go grab the eggs, lead the dinos up a bit, and leave em. EZPZ!

Interesting, thanks - so the rads don't kill the dinos before they can do their thing? Aight, I'll give that a go. Reckon I'd better craft about 100 picks to go all that way, whee.

EZPZ lol.. tame some dinos 100+. You guys must have no real life and not work at all. Man how i loved ark when it was a game you could play even if you cant play 12 hours a day :D... long way back

Getting back up is the hardest part the first time! Once you do your next headache comes in hatching it! Some players say they need like 20 to 30 AC units to start hatching as the eggs have to be cold but I used 3 S+ ACs so I'm not sure what the requirement is.

Well tribe mates help especially if you lure the dino to a taming area.

I heard that radiation doesn't hurt spinos, and there's also mushrooms that can protect from that as well.

I was wondering if karkinos would be good to use there. since they have good dmg, hp, and their jump can help you deal with the leveled terrain.

That's why I had to quit playing on servers - it ate my life trying to keep everything maintained and alive and all that. Strictly a single-player game for me now, which means I can play as I have time (yay) but have to do bloody everything alone (boo.)

I think I'm just super cranky right now after having spent so many hours today (and all the damn metal ingots) laying down over 400 tracks.

i didn't agro any of them when i grabbed my egg, but i found an egg near the front of the ravine they're in
