single player character question
I have just been playing solo single player in the main area. My question is what happens if I take this character to another area like extinction or scorched earth? Do my stats/level reset? Do I take the gear I have equipped and what I'm carrying or do I just get dropped in with nothing? Most importantly, can I go back to the main area after visiting others and maintain all progress I made while I was there, like all the stuff I built will still be there?

I can't remember cause its been so long since I've played single player but I believe you can upload yourself to any drop or one of the obelisks. Anything in your personal inventory will come with you but anything in a tame's inventory will not--including their saddles. But you should remain the same level and all as long as when you get to the new map, you download your character instead of creating a new one.

And I believe anything you did in the other map still remains--meaning you can go back and forth.

I have recently moved my singleplayer character from the Island to Abberation and Ragnark so i could get those engrams before transfering him to Extenction. You keep your level, stats, and engrams but all your items and gear drops to the ground leaving you with nothing on the new map.

I play single player. You can put dinos and items in an obelisk and transfer them with the character. I left most of my dinos on Ragnarok but I brought one Argentavis with me to Extinction as well as armor, tools, food smithy, etc.

On Extinction you retrieve your items and dinos from any terminal you find in the city instead of going to a red, green or blue obelisk.

I have at least one base on every map for SP and regularly use the obelisk to move myself, dinos and items around all the time. Especially now that you can use crypods to transport your tames with their saddles as a tradeable item its really useful. I moved most of my water tames over to The Center because there's a LOT more water space to work with there versus The Island for example. Some maps are also better for resourcing than others too.

Between the different areas to explore, unique tames and engrams, resourcing opportunities and the ability to transfer and travel between maps at will, I would strongly recommend utilizing as many maps as your hard drive space can allow. It expands the gamespace dramatically.

Always make redundant backups of your saves folders everytime you play

Things happen. Corrupted files, etc.

yes you can transfer character, items and dinos in SP, just not the item on you (you have to load them inside the obelisk first) and no element or shards either (probably dust too but haven't tried yet).

you'll keep your bases and tames around no worry, just like when you quit the game. you'll find everything back the way it is when you come back.

just pay attention about the tribe system not to loose property (but if that happen you can use cheat command to get them back).
first time you get to a new map check if you have a tribe. if yes (should be the same as the other map) don't leave it. if no recreate the same tribe as your previous map. And most of all never leave a tribe when you get back to another map.

And yeah, before each transfer i recommand backing-up game in case something goes wrong (it never happened to me but better safe than sorry). Generally back-up after each play time to be sure, like KitsuneShiro said

I tried launching single player on Scorched Earth, but saw no way to bring my current character and instead only the character creation screen. How do I load my current player onto a map?

You select the map from the host menu and when it comes up with a survivor creation screen, click the download survivor button and any character you uploaded should be available. A character is sort of attached to a map until you upload them up out of it. And you can even download or create a new character after you upload one out. I have a procedurally generated ark that has a 105 character with 1000% crafting. I deliver supplies there and she does the crafting, then I come get the finished goods with my main character. Much easier than respecing.

Upload to an obelisk terminal, exit to main menu, start another map, download character button, head to an obelisk to get any gear or dinos you uploaded.

Unlike on a server, you can't transfer through beacons in SP and you can't take any gear on your person when you transfer, gear must be put into the obelisk else it drops to the ground when you upload.

this. you can also use a tek transmitter or S+ tek transmitter that you place in your base (wherever you want) to take your loot/dinos.

but yeah you first have to upload your character inside obelisk or transmitter before moving to new map.

I'm sloooow. In my 30hrs of play I hit level 31, but never actually traveled very far. Anyway I just accidentally erased my character so 30+ hours wasted. I was having a lot of fun, but after wiping my character by accident, I'm done with this game tbh. My own fault, but it's ruined for me. oh well. Cheers!

actually in SP game you can use cheat command or just simply increase XP rate easily before loading the map with the sliders on the side to win back your levels (or lost stuff).

consult the wiki about that: https://ark.gamepedia.com/ARK_Survival_Evolved_Wiki
https://ark.gamepedia.com/Server_Configuration
https://ark.gamepedia.com/Console_Commands

anyway if you play Ark solo you have to back-up somewhere else on your disk your "Saved" file inside ...\steamapps\common\ARK\ShooterGame as soon as possible (do it after each game session to be sure) so if you have any problem with a mod or corrupted save or in this case erase, you just have to replace it with your back-up. backin-up the all "Saved" file will also include your personnal keybinds and settings in case you lost those and have a hard time finding them again.

Also don't forget that your character only exists in one map at a time. uploading it doesn't make a copy of it for another map, it takes the same character to the other map.

Uploading my SP to Extinction made my SP character have negative engram points and have used a mind wipe tonic 2 times and yet again have negative engram points. Zero mods.
guig Nov 15, 2018 @ 2:23pm
sorry i didn't get that problem so i can't help you.
what i would do is first use the previous back-up of my save and try again; and then chek game file through steam options if something still goes wrong ^^

anyway always back-up your saves =) always !

Mindwipes changed at some point and only work once per level and no more at level cap. If you want to use them more than once per level make sure you have the Unlimited Respec option enabled from host settings.
