Passive Taming Crystal Wyverns
Hey, so I'm kinda confused. I'm on a server that has 4x taming rates, and I was able to tame a lvl 65 tropical wyvern just fine. But when I attempted a lvl 140 tropical, the tame bar started dropping at some point where I can't really tame it anymore. I figured it was a time limit or something since there are other ways to tame it.

Or so I thought, I tried to tame a lvl 45 Ember Wyvern, and the tame bar started dropping as well. While it's not tropical, it seems to gain more % than the lvl 65. Am I doing something wrong with taming the wyverns passively? Or is this intended?

you might want to tame with primal crystal

Yeah I've seen this already on YouTube, you can only tame low level with normal crystal and for high level you need prime crystal, these you can get from knocked out wyverns and they last longer in an crystal wyvern inventory.
Althoug a friend of mine managed to tame a 145 with normal crystal, he trapped her with gates while she was stuck between trees. L

Maybe it's not a time limit after all but you have to be VERY quick everytime she's hungry?

it has more to do with food vs feeding timer. wildcard i think said a fix was coming but in short, when the dino gets hungry enough the tame will start dropping. with current settings, normal crystals only give very little tame and the hunger for the crystal wyvern drops below the failure thresh hold before you can get the taming to 100. i wasnt sure what else to do but turns out you can probably get primal crystals by knocking out a crystal wyvern the way you would to get milk. and then harvest them off with E on the wyvern. then use those to tame. they have a much greater effectiveness.

The above can't be the answer. You'll feed them, they'll fly away like normal, and their tame will drop.

I just tried this on a level 20 using normal crystal. Couldn't get past 25%.

Instead of necro'ing a post six months old, why not start your own and ask your question?

So you just tried what? Something people tried six months ago?

And what, got the same result, a different result?

BTW, thousands of people have tamed Crystal Wyverns since this thread was started, at least one of those might respond if you ask an actual question.

It's the same issue, that the devs said were working on it, that 6 months later is still unresolved. This gives context for ongoing issues.

Don't have anything better to do with your time than to troll the Steam forums?

lol, I see my thread got necro'd. I already got the answer to the question, so I'll just post it here.

Crystal Wyverns should not be tamed with normal crystals, the issue is that if the taming process takes too long, they start losing tames (I forgot what drops the taming bar, but I believe it's their food). Instead, you want to tame them with PRIMAL crystals, which are obtainable from harvesting KO'd crystal wyverns (KO one, go up to one, press E on it).

That's all it is to it really, just tame them with primal crystals, don't bother with normal crystals, but it's a good idea to bring spare crystals incase if you run out of all primals and didn't tame the wyvern.

Just to add further confusion to things, I was able to find that same wyvern (and one more since) trap it by place gateways over it, then force feeding it and it worked without issue.

But to tie in to what you're saying it never had a chance to go long without being fed a crystal and the issue I had was it ran away and wouldn't land while it's tame meter was going down, so trapping it was probably the solution for wanting to use normal crystals.

When in doubt, cheese it out!

That's because you're supposed to get on the wyvern's back and feed while it flies around. It's how crystal wyverns, they're supposed to never land while their taming bar is active.
