Pteranodon not coming back!
Hi, so I tamed a Pteranodon, and it was annoying that it was following me all the time, not to mention almost ground level.

So on behavior I did something like enable free wandering. and since then it took off.

Everytime I press J so that it comes back to me, it doesn't.

ok so basically your pt is fly anywhere it wants whenever it wants, its gotta be blind luck for you to find it
dont enable wandering it means your dino can do what it wants

J only works if he's in hearing range.

Depending on map and mode you maybe able to find him.

On SP tame another and fly around pressing J, if on a server, put the word out in chat.

Always enjoyed helping players find their birds...

Sorry to say you will most likely chance upon your ptera after you have replaced it.... or once you get its death notification. Enable wandering it should just walk on the ground however, but if its also set to neutral or attack target when it gets attacked by things it will take to the air to defend itself... than it can get basically anywhere.

"Enable Wander" basically does just what it says, the creature starts moving around at random. If it's a flyer and not set to neutral then you might get lucky and it's flying around, far from the ground, and nothing has eaten it. If it's on neutral or aggressive then it is probably gone. (As in, eaten.)

If you are in single player, your only hope is that critters stop moving when they get outside render range. If you return to the area where you set it free you *might* be able to spot it. You'll probably want a spyglass to use the T or J whistles to try to call it back though. If you're on a server then it could be anywhere.

The "enable wander" setting has a lot of issues. Another big one is that at least at one point the game would start to render and animate tamed critters long before you were close enough to start seeing buildings. If you have creatures set to wander inside a building or fence, they can walk right through because until you get closer, the fence doesn't exist yet.

Something to try with your next pet - you can use the wheel settings and under Behavior, you can increase the follow distance. This will make the pet wait until you're farther away before it moves to catch up, and less likely to stick its beak in your ear when it does. The downside is that critters are still pretty stupid, so there's a good chance it will get stuck on a rock or tree or cliff at some point.

The other option is that you can use whistles to tell it to stop following you. U stops everything that's not set to ignore whistle commands, Y will just affect the one under your crosshair. You can do the same thing with follow whistles. On my system, J tells everything to follow you (which is good for turning a base into a confused mess that'll take half an hour to fix.) T will call just the one you're targeting. The Comma key will tell everything to move to a specific point, and the Period key will order everything to attack a creature if you have one targeted. It can also be used to harvest a corpse.
