In this case, I believe you should try to invite him through epic games.
i will present you my solution which took me way to much time to figure out.
I will split it in three parts, 1. my situation, 2. find your "non dedicated server" 3. Fix the issue, join the server
The task´s to be done will be addressed with "HOST" for the one who creates the "non dedicated server" and
FRIEND who want´s to join the "non dedicated server"
It will take some time but it should help you if you face a similar situation
1. my situation
Ark give away for free at the epic games store and some of my friends and myself took the offer.
Unfortunately nothing works, always is steamCMD or steamID or something else needed.
Till yesterday.
I do have: Windows 10, Fritzbox router, ARK from the epic games store and Radmin VPN, no mods included
2. find your "non dedicated server" (you may skip this if your issue is a failed connection and go to point 3)
HOST
--> create your server
+ [start ARK]
+ [lokal]
+ [non dedicated server]
+ no password
+ give your server a name and note it down
+ create your avatar and wait till your game finished loading
you should now be able to play without your friends
HOST and FRIEND
--> fake a lan connection (if your friend who wants to join is in your network, sitting next to you, skip this)
+ install Radmin VPN (https://www.radmin-vpn.com)
Radmin VPN is the same as Hamachi but better, without a 5 person limitation and for free
+ create a group on Radmin VPN, let your friends join
+ check if everyone is online in that group
FRIEND
--> find the server
+ [start ARK]
+ [ARK join]
+ server sort [non dedicated server]
+ at the top, sort for [all cards], [all game modes] and search for the [server name] which the HOST noted down
wait about 30 sec, if you find the server this guide should fix your issue
try to join the server, after some time you should get the message "connecting failed" or somethin similar
that´s ok, now its time for the HOST to act
3. Fix the issue, join the server
at this point we now that we actually can reach the "non dedicated server" and only have to get access to it
that´s the main work
HOST
--> get the IP-Adress of the computer which is the host of the server
+ start your command line
+ write "systeminfo" and note down your Hostname (for example: "GandalfsPC")
+ write "ipconfig" , search for "Wireles lan ..." and note down your (local) [IPv4-Adress] (for example: 192.174.178.81)
--> select your computer in the router configuration
+ log in at your router (for example: "http://fritz.box" and than the password, if you have a fritzbox-router)
here the layout may differ between different routers, just adapt to it and search for the same configuration, it has to be there
+ [Internet]
+ [Freigabe / Enabling]
+ [add device for enabling]
+ from the list choose your computer which is the host
+ check if the noted IPv4-Adress and automatic generated IPv4-Adress are the same!!!!
if not you dont have your host computer or noted down the wrong IPv4-Adress
--> configurating your ... router first step (may not be needed)
+ click [Neue Freigabe / new enabling]
+ [application] choose "different application"
+ [Designation] write something it doesent matter "arkserver"
+ [protocol] "TCP" and "27015"
+ click [ok]
--> configurating your ... router second step
+ click [Neue Freigabe / new enabling]
+ [application] choose "different application"
+ [Designation] write something it doesent matter "arkserver"
+ [protocol] "UDP" and "7777 - 7778"
+ click [ok]
+ click [take over]
--> configuration at [windows defender firewall] (may not be needed)
+ [Allow an app or feature through Windows Defender Firewall]
+ [Change settings]
+ [admin rights]
+ search in the list below for "ShooterGame" there should be a "check mark" otherwise do it
FRIEND
--> join the server
+ start ark
+ [lokal]
+ [single player]
+ [create your avataor and join the game]
you should be able to play in your single player world.
+ on your keyboard press "TAB" once (the button with the <-- and --> on it)
+ the ark "command line" should now be visible
+ if you are in the same network (sitting next to each other) write "open HOST_LOCAL_IPv4-ADRESS:7777" and press enter
+ otherwise look which IPv4-Adress the HOST has in your Radmin VPN group and do the same, write "open HOST_RADMIN_VPN_IPv4-ADRESS:7777" and press enter
it should look like this "open 192.174.178.81:7777"
if you get a loading screen ... congratulations.
if nothing happens you may check if you did the correct configurations at your router or this attempt did not work for you and you may have an other issue
I hope you can follow the instructions and wish you good luck. hopefully it helps
Easy way (for non-dedicated) : create a solo game, after creating your char, open console with "TAB" and type ; open IP:Port( should be by default 7777). (ex: open xxx.xxx.x.x:7777)
Just did it 1 hours ago and worked for lan network and hamachi.
You cant, its only in dedicated servers
If you'd searched better you'd've seen this has been discussed a many times across many threads:
To play with steam-epic players on a server:
1. It must be a dedicated server. Nondedicated will not work.
2. The -crossplay command must be enabled.
3. No modded content can be used.
So your wants with a nondedicated server session will not work.
