Are griffins good in 2020?
Just tamed a lvl 135 with all prime, hes around lvl 210 atm. First time playing Ragnarok so first time with a griffin, and im a little underwhelmed.

The dive seems very good and being able to mount and blade seems incredibly good, but as far as health and dps he loses health fairly fast (likely due to no saddle, mine has 6000 hp off the bat) and doesnt seem to do a lot of damage either against lvl 25-50 brontos.

Do their stats scale well? I expected a bit of squishiness having no saddle but the damage just seems really low.

Griffins are rubbish

I don't use them as combat and base-moving mount due to the low hp, melee and weight, but it is fast for light-weight travelling in large map like rag. Also it is a good taming mount, just flying above the dino and shoot dart into their face, remember not to tank the dmg.

They used to be good, but people complained they we're op cause they would get one shot while naked, so WC nerfed them into the ground, and then released manas. Wyverns are back to being the strongest flying tame in terms of damage.

they are the only flyer where you can use weapons while driving, so you can shoot tranq darts from the air

Your dive attack can one shot a lot of creatures once you get your melee dam up

In my experience, the melee is terrible. U can't breed them, so max melee is relatively low compared to argies or Owls, and of course, Wyverns do more even with no mutation stacking. I've actually had a good run with health, with Griffins having easily 4-7K base health once tamed.

Griffins are still one of my favorite flyers. They AREN'T Air-to-air-fighters, however. (Use a snow-owl or Argy for that.) So DON'T use them against Wyverns.

You do the most damage with a swipe-attack against land-besed creatures. (If you do it correctly, you also can do this against flyers,) And they're still the fastest creature in the world. (even faster than snow-owls, which also has a dive-speed.)

They AREN'T a dps- but burst-damage-creature. And great to farm several things out of creature-corpses (chitin, prime-meat.)To swipe, dive, and then go level-flight BEFORE you hit the ground. Attack, when you are over your target. This make MUCH MORE damage then bombing and don't expose you for counter-attacks. If your griffin attacks with the left claw, you've done it correctly. If it attacks with the right one, you don't have the speed-momentum anymore.

You can
- swipe attack to kill land-based creatures
- swipe against the corpses to get hundreds of resources
- use weapons while flying
- so tame dangerous creatures, without them reaching you
- tame QUETZALS solo
- have the FASTEST way to get around a map, as long as your stamina lasts. (even faster than the snow-owl) BUT: your stamina doesn't nearly last as long as other flyers, and certainly not as long as the snow-owl. But the momentum of the speed-dive lasts much longer.
- so you can get to Wyvern-eggs and get away from them safely. DON'T fight wyverns on a griffin, You won't have much chance. Except you use weapons from the back, perhaps. But you will get oos eventually...
- get a passenger
- which also can use weapons.

You can't:
- fight against other flyers and win with the griffin alone
- do much damage with the bomb-attack.
- use a griffin as flight-leader effectivly, because it's faster then most other flyers, and you're constantly waiting for them.
- they don't use the speed-up, if they aren't ridden.
- you can't dive, while holding an item. (if you're wondering why you can't dive, while flying in third-person. check if you are still holding the map and/or compass/GPS)
- transport much items
- transport big creatures.
- sadly: breed them.

Interesting hot take, I appreciate it. So you say the best thing to do is dive down and right before you hit the ground, break the dive then land, and you'll have a different, higher damage attack? Is it only one attack or does it last the duration of the speed buff?

Also what would you recommend leveling stat wise? I have his hp just above 700, stamina around 900, and melee damage somewhere around 300%. Id like him him be powerful and good at getting prime and be as good as a lvl 215 can be for pvping.
