Egg Farming
So me and my buddies are somewhat new to the game and we are playing on a vanilla unofficial server. We got a good amount of female dinos now and are trying to farm up some unfertilized eggs for kibble. I've been reading up on it and I keep finding mixed info so I'm hoping someone may be nice enough to clarify a few things for me.

I know only female dinos lay eggs but I've read that they need to be mate boosted in order to do so. So I need one male for every breed of dino to get unfertilized eggs?

We have an oviraptor boosting their egg production but they don't seem to lay many eggs. I know the despawn time is 30 min on eggs and we check everytime we come back to base. Do we need to be close to the dinos for them to lay eggs. I've read that you have to be in render range. I've also read that only 6 eggs can be on the ground in render range at a time. So we need to stay in base and just pick up the eggs as they come?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Females lay egg passively over time at a slow rate. The rate is a bit different per dino. Like brontos dont lay very often, but dodos do every minute. All mate boosted dinos receive a small buff to egg laying time. So a few girls and 1 guy gives them all a mate boost as long as they are relatively close to each other.

After that the wandering oviraptor buff makes them lay eggs even more often. Even with all this the normal egg laying rate isn't that great, and having to manually check them makes this process annoying.

The S+ mod and a few other mods have egg collection structures. These are isnanely useful to remove this constant need to check for egg. Even so, egg laying taked time. It'll be a few days to week before you have enough eggs to make a good amount of kibble. Eventually you'll have a ton. It all depends on your activity around them.

Also, entering and leaving their render range can cause them to lay, so you have to check every time you go to leave or return to your base. And sometimes force feeding stim berries causes laying. Most notably with the dodo. (This costs a lot of fopd tho).

As mentioned above oviraptors are a great addition to an egg farm.
Build a cage, whistle ovi to follow you whilst standing behind the cage, whistle stop following, set it on wander and close the cage.
Keep it relatively close to your egg layers.
