Did the dino mutation system change?
I am trying to mutate velos, snow owls, and dimorphodons. I have at least 10 perfect females of each. velos the male has 2 mutations, the dimorphs 4 mutations and owls none. After cracking probably 400 eggs all together, I have not gotten a mutation. While combining stats on rexes with numbers in the millions on both sides I have gotten 3 mutations out of about 80 eggs which from everything that I have read should not happen. Do the matrilineal and patrilineal numbers not matter anymore?

Mutations are RNG simple as that.

Sorry RNG?

nevermind brain fart. so whats the point of the 0/0 on each side then
Charcharodonto Apr 26, 2020 @ 11:40pm
random xD

The point of the 0/20 is that an animal at 20/20 or higher can't roll mutations for it's offspring. when both parents are 20/20 the offspring can't mutate.

having one mutasted parent and one clean parent also makes it easier to count and check mutations

2.5% chance for a mutation assuming both parents don't have a maxed out mutation counter. I guess you could get unlucky but pretty rare to see none at all over 400 eggs. Getting them in the stats you want is a different story and has definitely taken me over 400 eggs before.

As for your rexes, you shouldn't be able to get a mutation if both the parents have their mutation counters maxed. Are you saying you are breeding a dirty female with a dirty male, both with mutation counters past 20 and get an increase in one of their stats?

tell that to the rexes that are a million over on both sides, you didnt understand what i was saying they should not be able to mutate, but i have gotten 3 mutations. Im gather fish right not but when i get back ill copy that stats of both male and female

Having a counter with millions on both sides doesn't indicate the number of mutations a dino has.

if i have a rex with 1125 melee and it mutates to 1137 woulldnt you think the even the best 150 tamed will require more than 20 mutations to get to 1125.

That isn't relevant at all. You can have a million mutations on the counter and no more than a few on the actual creature. Take a look at this other thread if you want to see a little more on how the mutation counter actually works.

so what your saying as long as one side is 0/0 and the other some ridiculous number i can get a mutation. does it it matter what side is 0/0?
Innovativemnd Apr 27, 2020 @ 12:17am
i noticed in the the parents one was a breeder so she could have been a
0/0

jeez that means i have been having some seriously bad luck with my snow owls not even 1 mutation yet. Im at 60 eggs hatched and nothing. I do play single player also and went a long time on my therizs. I just thought it was becauase it was single player.

Yeah, that's nothing though. Cobretti above was saying you should have seen a mutation in 400 eggs.. but those are 400 over three different species?.. only 60 eggs per dino type is a very low amount to get a mutation in. I just discarded about 600 eggs with no mutations looking for my 9th melee mutation on a Tek Rex. Been doing it all day lol.

The side the mutations are on matters at the end of a clean chain, when you want to combine stats. Say you have a male with 20 actual mutations on Pat side and a female with 20 on Mat side.. you want to breed that female back to the clean base male until you have a new female with the mutations on the Pat side too so when you combine your two mutated dinos it stacks to 40/20 on one side.. that way you can combine with a different dino and get to 60/20.. that's actual mutations.

If a dino has millions on both sides but can still roll mutations that mean the ancestors were not clean, somewhere in the line babies got born with mutations on the counter inherited from a parent but no stat mutations, maybe they had a nice colour, or a single mutation and an inflated counter. Those add up fast when they are crossbred back and forth. You end up with a huge counter and an unknown amount of mutations unless you've been writing them down on a piece of paper.
