I'd go ahead and do a few things to you and whoever mentioned SE was borked.
RE-Validate your ARK installation.
Launch ARK but use the Reset Resolution option and reset your settings. The last few updates, had reset my in-game settings for Medium Presets - but I can handle Epic on this PC.
Re-verify your GPU drivers as well... sometimes being one or two behind doesn't break anything... until a new patch comes in.
They don't know how to design a product and they don't have QA before launching an update.
You should get in touch with them and show them how to do it right.
