"Too close to enemy foundation or gate" Can't build
Hello everyone, Im quite new in the game and enjoying it so far. So a weird thing happened to me while i was building my structures. I definitely made sure that the whole place was free reign and i could build as I want, and it was. When i went out to gather wood and went back all of a sudden the spot where I was planning to build a structure at, this message suddenly appeared. This message wasn't there before and it was a pretty open area. Might be a bug? Really weird. Also I'm playing on the official servers and I dont have mods on. Im want to play the game Vanilla for now till I get more experienced in the game.

I dont play on official servers but I think it means you're building too close to another players base? Hope this helps

Hey! thanks for responding. I asked an acquaintance and she basically explained it to me already. You're correct, the rich guy near my area is spamming pillars everywhere and reserving spots :( I guess I'd have to relocate and move.

Yeah that's the problem with official servers. Finding places to build can be really difficult. Where were you trying to build?

I was trying to build near a shore. It was pretty clear in that spot, but I guess you can just reserve spots by spamming pillars everywhere. That's good to know, at least I'm learning! Do you recommend not going to the official servers if just starting out?

Honestly I would recommend getting stuck into a good PvE server if you can play regularly, or even single player. With PvE you have to play somewhat often so your base doesn't get reset and your dinos claimed by other players. I started with singleplayer and I still play it, playing at my own pace, setting tasks, taming whatever I want and not having to worry about time or other players. I'd recommend trying Valguero, The Center and Ragnarok too (3 free maps in the workshop that count as official DLC) theyre awesome.

Official servers are crap. You need to move out entirely and find a decent Unofficial server like the majority of players.

If you are near most any structure, including pillars, placed by another player, you cannot build in that location within I believe its 16 foundations in a radius from the structure.

If you do not want to play on the 1000ish official servers where this is a common issue, then I suggest you join the majority of the player base and play on one of the 70,000+ unofficial servers that either have rules against that or that the population is more balanced/reasonable to where it is a non issue.

Also keep in mind that there are some valid reasons people protect sections of land, especially on some maps due to the fact that if you build over those areas, important resources wont spawn(dinos included), block waterways that others need to use, etc. So while yes land baron'ing is an issue on various servers, its not always the case for why such occurs.

This is all the core/key flaw of Ark: ecocide that I've discussed in the past and why most player gravitate to unofficial servers with lower to medium populations.

Appreciate the response guys! Since im quite new and do not understand what actually the game offers, I might just take god's advice and start a single player. Once i learn the ropes I'll gradually gravitate to a good unofficial server and play there.

Just like what everyone else has said so far, Official servers are crap. Ecoside is one of the reasons why I don't play them, but the main reason is the tame rate is just awful. How is guarding a dino for 3 hours while trying to tame them fun?

I have my own private server with 3x xp, gathering, and 20x tame, egg hatching. Makes the game so much better.

Turn on 'SINGLEPLAYER SETTINGS' too, if you cant be bothered to tweak everything individually. Itll make it easier and much much easier to learn.

Tweaked some of the settings and activated singleplayer settings too! Thanks :happyio:

Have fun! Go at your own pace and set goals for yourself, like taming a high level T rex or finishing your base. BTW, try and tame high level dinos, above 100 prefereably but theyre harder to tame.

Any way of seeing what structure is keeping me from building? You see I like yo build I'm Creative mode then start a new character, then "Giveallstructures"... my issue is I've been flying around looking for what is not connected so I can take ownership. Essentially it's my old base.. is there a way to see what it is that is from my old character?

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
