Difference between Story ark and Custom ark?

Story Ark = The Island, Scorched Earth, Aberration and Extinction - the Genesis follows in line.

They are the official maps, with explorer notes that convey a "story" of what the ARK is. You need to complete the different stages of bosses in order to "Ascend" and learn what this is all about.

Custom Ark = Ragnarok, The Center, Valguero and whatever other modded maps you have. These are... well, custome made - hence Custom Ark.

What if I dont have scorched eath and abberation ect, can I only do the first quarter of the story?

Season pass expansions = Continued story/lore content

Anything else is just a free map with zero story/lore.
