Raising rexs is stupid
I have some rex babies. With the x3 on right now, I started raising them yesterday, thinking "great I'll get them raised in 1/3 the time!" So before bed last night I give them each like 50 stacks of food, and a bunch of preserving salt. I slept 7.5 hours (you know, a somewhat normal thing for a human being), and I wake up to all the babies dead..... Is this game actually created in such a way that the devs expect us to wake up in the middle of the night, just to play this? Or is there something else I could have done to prevent this?

First of all, no matter what baby you are raising, none of them will have enough weight during juvenile time to carry enough raw/cooked meat to get them through the night/day. Use troughs, because that way you may measure more easily how much each of them eat (set timer and see how much disappears from the trough in like 5mins, then calculate how much you need to put in there for 8hrs).

Second of all, like people mentioned, use cooked meat/dodo kibble/raw meat. Waking up for 5mins in the middle of the night just to restack the troughs to reset them back to 20 raw per stack is not hard but if you want to push for full sleep, then fill many many troughs.

1 trough full of freshly stacked 20 meat stacks lasts around 13hrs. But as the meat spoils, there is less and less in the stack, and it disappears faster, so you need to have more troughs put up.
Using jerky is another option, might be more expensive but no good things come without some effort.

Then, after all, you can also opt for tek troughs. There are ways around it to get them. Buy the tek gen and tek troughs from someone for ingots etc and then just do some caves and then broodmother.

Ultimately, befriend some people, pincode your gates, pincode your troughs and have them restack/refill the troughs when you sleep. Official servers have plenty people who struggle with solo gameplay and its not hard to find and ally them.

Just put some thought into what you are doing. I solo raised gigas without any breeding events, without tek troughs, because I really badly wanted to have them. Coming up with solutions is part of the game, and challenges are part of the game as well. While gigas/mosas/squids are dinos for bigger tribes, rexes are not. Rexes can be raised even without the event normally, and left for 8+hrs if you are smart about it.

u need good time management then . we can breed 30-50 rexes at x2 .. and this x3 .

All hail the Dodo. Dear fiend get a bunch of dodos, make dodo kibble, each kibble = 50 food. Now put about 300 dodo kibble on each baby. You are still going to have to stay wit them for an amount of time to fead them meat but when you are closer to 10% you can start filling the trough with cooked meat and go to sleep. 300 x 50 = 15, 000 food so you could have some left over in the rex when it switches to the trough. If the trough runs out of meat the rex will go back to eating the kibble.

Don't start raising them before you go to sleep maybe? Hatch them early in the morning and then watch them through out the day, this is also why I prefer to breed herbivores and only breeding meat eating dinos if their parents are really good and I really want a good version of the dino.

Edit: I am curious though how long TS took care of the rexes before going to bed.. They should have reached juvi stage before the first imprint during 3x..
They were at 30ish% when I went to bed, and I left them probably 7.5 hours, might have been 8.

Shouldn't have been a problem using maybe 3-6 stacks of cooked meat, 6 salts and topped off with raw meat. Hope it works out next time!

Or do what I do and put in 1000 meat
GreenMan Aug 20, 2017 @ 10:58am
Raising stuff isn't that bad. Have 2-3 feeding troughs, and make at least two of them are full before you go to bed. A couple fridges for meat are also advisable in case you run out. Always better to use troughs instead of placing it in their inventories, though I usually put a couple stacks of cooked meat in each one in case they somehow run out.

Read the thread pls, putting in more stacks of raw meat would not help him

So I had a trough full of cooked meat. I go to bed, sleep less than 8 hours, come back on, dead rex babies... And the trough has a few hundred spoiled meat in it...
I don't understand how we're supposed to do well in this game, and yet actually live a normal life.

The server that I play on has maturation rates at 21x, and Rexes still take a good 4 and a half hours to raise.
Don't get me started on some of the water creatures like the squids... Those are still 10 hour maturations, even with the 21x rate!

when i raise rexes, i load up 2-3 on raw meat full with 1 full of cooked. t hen logg off, for 11-13hrs while at work
however, i dont logg off till babies are at juvi stage
or have enough meat in their inventory to last from babyt to juvi,
