100% Disk Usage causing insane stutter
Hey yall, i've been trough the entire Web searching for a solution, but everything i've done so far didn't help at all, help would be greatly appreciated... So, this started when i got back from a trip and can't remember exactly but i think i had to download Some Windows 10 Updates, i've heard there's some memory leaks in the new windows updates that could be related to the '100% Disk Usage but i can't just wait until another update to come out, i've always had good performance in ARK but now i can't even walk without a Crazy 3s Stutter, i've checked and everytime i get the stutter the Disk usage Spikes. I have 8gb of ram and i play ARK with pretty much all the available Launch Options to maximize the performance, i also play in Lowmemory but still doesn't help, i've been having a problem with RAM too and it's something i can't find out why, when i play ark it consumes about 2-4gb ram and when its close to 4gb it tells me it's using about 95% of the memory somehow, i check the usage and the only thing that's using memory is pretty much ARK, and i heard the W10 OS consumes a lot of RAM to operate but i made sure to make that as little as possible, and even if i didn't it should be using about 2gb idle. I need help i'm dying without ARK!!!!

When I play it uses 10-12Gb of ram in total , it seems that you are ending up using virtual memory from the file on your hard disk causing the issue.
Check for anything running in the background and shutdown everything you can.

Sorry if i'm not very familiarized with all this and i may sound dumb but i don't think that's the issue because even when i'm not using much RAM i still get 100% Disk usage spikes that cause lag and stutter

You do not have enough ram for this game. Your system is constantly swapping to the page file which is what is causing the stutter and disk usage. With enough ram you will get no swapping and no disk usage while playing.

You need about 12GB of ram minimum with this game. Upgrade to 16 and you will see a huge improvement. There is no memory leak in Win 10, but this game does have a couple. But I don't think tlyou have them or you would crash eventually.

You don't see all the ram used that the game needs because windows is swapping to the page file trying to keep some memory free.

I have the very same problem since the last windows update came out. I also have somewhat of a fix for that problem: search for windows updates, let the latest defender update install itself, then restart your computer and try playing ark again. Helped me every time.

I see, thanks for the quick response. Good to know i just need more RAM, very simple... After all i was the one complicating the situation more than necessary :p

I'll give it a shot, thanks.

How much room is left on your hdd?

Windows needs about 5-10 gb free to operate efficiently. No hdd should be 100% full always try to leave 5-10gb free

I'd have to agree with Simplicity and Margalus, You've 8gb of ram as you state, windows 10 will use around 4gb alone, Ark will use upto 10-12 as simplicity said currently even 16 is pushing it if you end up suffering teh memory leaks.

My son had 8gb and while he could play it would stutter frequently due to over flow into the page file I took 16gb out of my system and put it in his and never happened since.

I ran a server and played the game off the same computer with only 8gb ram. Win7.

The only "stutter" I hot was when the server saved. This was also about a year ago so stuff has changed.

Check your background processors and turn off what you don't need. Open run type msconfig and go from there.

I only have 40 running when steam off

Your partially right and partially wrong.

I have run ark on as little as 4 gig of Ram.
Currently I run on a windows ten with 8 gig and its smooth as silk without stutter or ludicrous disk usage.

OP try launching it in low memory mode (Thats what I always use, its not as pretty but its far more stable on "Basic" gaming machines)

If you want to run it on the highest settings yeah your gonna need more Ram but if you go through and prorperly optimize the game for your system you'll find you have much less issues I reckon.
SSD would also help a metric ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

I mean there could be some memory leak issues but I haven't expereinced them since I moved from 4 to 8 gig.

I stated previously that i play only in low memory mode
The only thing i have maxed out is resolution.

What is truly bothering me is the fact that before i went away i was able to play the game as smooth as possible, now i can barely walk...
