What exactly is the difference in clusters?

I am currently on an (official) EU TheCenterXXX and a am an absolute noob. Nevertheless, the game makes me veryrrrrrrrrrr much fun.

Have read that one can upload his character and can transfer to another server. So far so good.

Why are there these cluster servers when I can travel with my character anyway?

P.s only go from official servers. Unofficial I try to avoid

The clusters are there because the original system basically just had two settings: on and off, for uploads and downloads respectively. Regardless of where things came from. So most servers, official included, had no downloads enabled because that would mean anyone could spawn in anything in single player, and bring it over.
Clusters allow for downloads to be filtered - you can allow downloads only originating from within the cluster, and so more servers, including official, now allow them.

E: Jumping on the thinnest excuse to shove your server down people's throat does not make your server look appealing. Just saying...

i dont think i fully unterstand ... i am now the Thecenter..

Maybe later i want to change to TheIsle and after that to SE .. can i do this on my server or i have to go to other server and start there with new char ?

If you are on regular official servers, then yes, your character can travel from the Island/Center to SE, and from SE to the Island/Center.
Before clusters were added however, your character would not have been able to transfer at all. It is thanks to clusters that you now can.

BTW when i transfer are my pets come with me or ? What is with my " house" .. the thing made of stone .. is this still there when i transfer back or will it be deleted or the owner chi

The clusters are isolated from the rest of the official servers to test 2 way trafficking of characters, dinos, & items.

Currently, on the official servers outside the cluster you are able to do one way trafficking of dinos & items from Scorched Earth to the base maps [either the Island or the Center]. You cannot take dinos / items to Scorched Earth but the dev's have said they plan to allow this in the future.

All official servers will currently allow you to transfer your characters across servers from the base maps to Scorched Earth and back to base maps again as many times as you would like to.

When traveling to SE, you can only take your character.
When traveling from SE, you can also take items and animals.

So effectively, you can't take your stuff from the Center(/Island) with you to the desert, but stuff you find and tame in the desert you can bring back to the Center(/Island).

When leaving the Center or Island, you can only travel to an Scorched Earth server and you cannot take items or animals with you.
When leaving a Scorched Earth server you can only go to an the Island or the Center server, and you can take items and animals with you.

Traveling between the Center and the Island directly is not possible, sadly.

There is one PvP cluster of official servers that does allow travel in all directions, without restrictions on bringing items and tames, but you cannot bring outside characters, items or tames into it, you would have to start over.
