Levelling up weak dinos (XP question)

My research has failed me x) almost all of the information I'm finding when I search for facts / tips / advice on levelling weak dinos is conflicting and likely outdated, so I'm turning to you lovely people! My current project is to level my new ichthy, but the combination of their abysmal attack damage and their relatively low health means I can't just run around killing things on it like I normally do to level a new tame.

At the suggestion of my tribe mates, I tried having it follow my megalodon on 'attack my target', and I would let it hit whatever I'm attacking one time before I let the mega kill it. The ichthy didn't gain any more than passive experience, so that didn't work. We also tried the same tactic while having a tribe mate mounted on the ichthy, and setting up a queue of narcopots right on the beach and then mounting the ichthy while they crafted (which I had heard will allow them to share the XP) - neither seemed to give it any more than just the passive experience. After a lot of research tonight, I can't find any other suggestions and all the information on how XP works (specifically regarding the shared XP and how XP is distributed, or not distributed, when crafting or hunting with more than one dino) is conflicting.

How does shared XP work with the dinos? When more than one tamed dino is fighting the same wild dino, is the dino that made the final blow the only one to get XP or are there circumstances that allow it to be shared? Is there any way to use crafting so that the dino receives a share of the XP?

Could anyone shed some light on this for me? Am I doomed to have to level my ichthy by way of mass trilobite murder? xD If any of you guys have tips on leveling ichthy (and maybe how NOT to end up getting her killed? n_n;) I would love to hear them - thank you!

You can lvl up dinos if you sit on them and some one makes narcotics close by using shared xp

But you need to stay on them until complete

not to sure if your tribes all max lvl do you still get xp when crafting?

or try the old one of sitting on your dino and crafting items in your inventory not someone beside you

@johnim that was one of the things I attempted, but I think I may know why it didn't work...I just remembered that I had actually been the one to craft the narcopots (I set up a queue of them and then jumped onto the ichthy while they crafted) because my tribe mate had to run off at the last minute. Does it only work if the person crafting is NOT the one mounted on the dino?

@xgoodweedx, two out of the three of us are max level (capped at 300 on our server) - I hadn't even considered that that might affect the shared XP. However, even though I've hit my level cap, it seems that I still gain XP. I just tried crafting a few things in my inventory (while mounted on the ichthy) and the XP still goes up, it just doesn't show the XP needed to reach the next level anymore. Ichthy still didn't gain XP from this though...do you think my being at our server's level cap could be the issue despite the XP gain it still shows?

Yes, if you are mounted on a dino incomming shared xp (the "free xp share you get from someone else in the tribe) get's divided inbetween you and the dino you are sitting on.
This can be craft or kill xp, just needs to be the free xp handed out by tribe sharing.
So you will get only half of that shared amount and the other half goes to your mount.
You can boost it more by having your mount be under the influence of the xp buff from the litle dog like critter (cannot remember it's name) .

Remote use a Broth of Enlightment to the Ichthy and Pet a Lystro (Lystro must be VERY close to the Ichthy).
Player1 craft tons of Narcotics, while Player2 rides the Ichthy.
Note that Player2 must be close to Player1 (does not matter how far is from the Mortar & Pestle).
Player1 is responsible to Pet the Lystro again, when needed.

PS. If Player2 collects an Explorer Note, while rides a Dino, the Dino will get XP Buff that stack with the other XP Buffs.

my low lvl tribe mate crafts and gets xp it shows im getting xp but im not as im max lvl
get your low lvl tribe mate to sit on your dino try that
